Does the machine only feed in reverse?
Will the machine feed as normal(forward).

If the machine will only work in reverse, then it is highly likely it is stuck in reverse and needs a good service to free it off.

It is very difficult trying to diagnose the problem without looking at the machine. A reasonable sewing machine tech should be able to sort the problem in no time at all.

Most good sewing machine suppliers should be able to get you one. If yours is a reasonably new machine (last 20 years or so) and it is a low shank machine they're quite easy to get and usually reasonably cheap.

As long as you get the correct shank height, most presser feet are universal. You can also get the snap-on feet and an appropriate shank to snap-on foot universal adapter. (Some button-hole feet need to plug into the sewing machine, for example.) It can be hard to measure the shank on presser feet. yes sure sounds like a bad relay to me. but also i wonder if the door close button (the one that tells the machine the door is closed) has stopped working .. still i would go with the relay
