Hi,
This is a car audio video unit
So to connect this unit electrically, they usually require 3 wires for power for it to switch on.
- The thick black wire is a earth or negative wire, which connects to the negative side of the battery or to the body of the car.
- Then there is a red and yellow wire.
- The thicker of the 2 wires red or yellow is constant 12volt power, which should be connected to the positive side of the battery or to constant 12volts in the car wiring plug.
- The other red or yellow which is the thinner of the 2 is a accessory wire, which means it has 12 volt power only when you turn the key to accessory or motor running.
- So yes both RED and YELLOW require power for the unit to be on .
- This is for radio station presets so it doesn't loose memory when you turn the key off, otherwise every time you turn the key you would have to store your stations again.
I hope this helps you.

usually not a code. it is unlawful to drive without the parking brake feature hooked up.... but the way to do it is remove the wire from the parking brake and ground it. it will then think the parking brake is on
Power Acoustik PD-624B 6.2-Inch Double-Din in-Dash LCD Touchscreen DVD Receiver with Bluetooth. The Radio cannot play any video, gives warning message.
Question edited for a lot more clarity, full make model (what it is)'.
Question moved from Televisions category.
The warning message may have been useful!
People don't realise that factory car audio is operated by and monitored by the Body Control Module (BCM) on a computer network. Your warning chimes and indicator clickers are generated by the BCM and played through the car audio system. The computer has no idea that this new device is!
Take it to an auto electrician or to an Alarm / Audio installer and see if their professional bi-directional grade scan tool computer can reprogram the BCM to ignore your device. Or just put the old one back.
