try Fn key with F5 or F8. depends on your model of laptop.
Look for the screen symbol on one of the function keys and try pressing that once and wait several seconds to see the screen changing video. Then press again if not correct.

If nothing is appearing on the projector, then connect a lcd monitor on the laptop and try the function keys intil it works thyen swap the monitor for the projector, and start the input scan for the active video input.

what is the name of the electronic screen with flexible ribbon cord attached to it and it is located in between the front and inner focal lense's and where can I get a replacement part for it?

Do you hear the fan running? Did you reset the lamp timer?

you need an infrared receiver that plugs into your laptop to receive the signal ...honestly they arn't very reliable...go buy a targus presentation remote at staples for 39-69 bucks if you want areceiver i think i have one left

That wide screen black out areas are a pain. You can try seeing if the unit has an option to adjust for Wide Screen but as many projectors i work with none do that i work with. Check your manual and see what you can come up with but from what i know your stuck with the black unless you run non-WS versions =\

remove the lens cover (screw on bottom front of lens, and twist the cover off). if you don't see it from there, remove the 4 side screws and take off the top cover of the projector. you will definitely see it from there.

reset the lamp timer. hold down the down arrow, right arrow, and enter buttons, then press power on.

I think you need remote for above said process.
Get original Sharp remote for XG-P10XU from Sharp Accessories.

power supply or lamp ballasts, both are pretty common to produce results as you describe, looking at $600.00 or so to repair. if those are the only things wrong.

Question edited for clarity. Remove the curl out of the paper by running 6" across the edge of a desk against the curl. With scissors, cut the end 1/2" straight. Then cut a 1/2" off both corners at 45 degrees.
