Durabrand model cd-1493...cd won't play
A friend of mine has one of these, and the same thing happened. Toss in a CD, and the unit reads it, but doesn't play it. Looking at the CD components, all appears to be well, and I was even able to trick the unit into turning on using a paper clip to hold down the "lid closed" switch.
What I found the issue to be was with the lack of downward or clamping pressure the CD was getting with the lid closed. If you notice, with the lid open, there is a round part that "floats" and serves two purposes...one is to align the CD and keep it steady, and the other is to grip it, as the CD's do not snap into the lower centering piece, but rather just sit on it.
I solved the problem by placing a rubber o-ring on it, The one I used is about 1/16" (1mm +/-) and about 1 inch (25mm) diameter. I used some rubber cement to attach it to the top piece. I'm not sure how long this will hold, but it's worth a shot. I figure keeping a CD in the tray will help keep the ring in place as well.
Good luck!
Need ac power cord
You can always get replacement cables from the local hardware store or
simply order replacement cables from ebay.com or amazon.com. to do this
all you have to do is get the product model number and part number and
search on ebay and amazon.com.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
The power switch
Parts are only sold and distributed through durabrand company themselves. That would be the only place you could get the part if you wanted the original. Otherwise you can try to make your own, but if you want an original replacement, you'll have to go through them. If anyone else had something different, it would be partstore . com or shopjimmy
While playing A cd the sound intermittenly stops
If the CD is the problem it could be scratched or dirty, clean the CD with a CD Cleaner if need be. If the CD mechanism is the problem the sled assembly may not be moving smoothly or is hindered ( the sled mech moves the laser across the CD like a needle arm move the needle across a record), the laser lens may be dirty also. Use a CD lens cleaner to clean the lens if you can not manually clean it with some lens cleaner and a swab. If the sled mechnism is the problem the unit may need to be taken in for service.
How do you rebuild a Telescoping Antenna?
Don't try to remove the segments because they will be destroyed. The easiest way is to change over the whole "stick". Try to find a way to fix the working one at the broken 's place.
In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

Works on batteries. does not work on ac.
If the AC cord can be removed from the back of the radio, then there is a mechanical lever inside where the AC cord plugs into the radio. That lever will cause the battery connection inside to be open (or disconnected) so that it will run off AC and not blow up the batteries. That is why it won't run on batteries when that cord is plugged in.
If it runs on batteries but not AC, find another cord to try. Most radios use about the same cord. If a second cord still doesn't make it work, it's most likely a fuse inside for the AC circuitry. they are usually mounted on a circuit board inside the radio right near where the AC cord plugs into the radio.
You should be able to take the radio apart (while it's unplugged from AC of'course) and find that fuse. If your good with a soldering iron you can replace the fuse. Replacements can be found at Radio Shack. If your reading these instructions to begin with, your probably not good with a soldering iron and you should just buy a new radio. Good luck.
