To fix the problem you have to check the scanner of your fax machine. It might not be functioning properly. Try to observe the fax machine while sending a document, look at the scanner section and see if the light of the scanner is turned on or lighted. If it's no longer lighted you have to replace it.

was there a paper jam in the first place where you had to pull the paper out?if so try and get in there and check if there is a little peice left as i believe these have little sensors that are affected very easily by the tinyest of paper. good luck!

I believe it's the scanner or at least the scanner light that stopped working.

Select FAX mode when you only want to receive faxes on your line. The fax machine will automatically answer all calls on four rings and receive incoming faxes
Press the RECEPTION MODE key until the arrow in the display points to the desired mode

This an old machine. If there is voltage at the wall outlet, it's probably toast. There are no replacable fuses.

While holding down the start and stop button with two fingers,
pull the plug from the wall, wait ten seconds, plug back into wall while still holding the two buttons, after plugged in take fingers off that should reset the fax.

I have a Sharp UX-300. When I get a line error, the easiest way to clear it is to unplug the fax machine from the power outlet and let it stand for at least a minute. Then plug it back in to the power outlet. If this does not clear the problem, use a regular phone to check if the phone line between the fax machine and the wall is 'OK'.

Sounds like you have the machine set up to print reports on all occasions, fax transmission, error, etc. You can change this by doing the following:
1 Press these keys:
The display will show:

FUNCTION
TRANSACTION LIST
2 Press a number from 1 to 5 to select
the condition for printing.
ALWAYS PRINT A report will be printed after each
transmission, reception, or error.
ERR/TIMER/MEM A report will be printed after an error,
timer operation, or memory operation.
SEND ONLY A report will be printed after each
transmission.
NEVER PRINT A report will never be printed.
ERROR ONLY A report will be printed only when an
error occurs.
To print from memory:
If the memory becomes full...
If the memory becomes full while the document is being scanned,
MEMORY IS FULL will appear in the display.
♦ Press the START/MEMORY key if you want to transmit the pages
which have been stored up to that point in memory. The remaining
pages will be ejected from the feeder. After transmission, the memory
will be cleared and you can transmit the remaining pages. You
will also need to transmit the page which was being scanned when
the memory filled up.
♦ Press the STOP key if you want to cancel the entire transmission.
