My daughter found a little pink recessed button on the front, just above the door. She used a paperclip to press it. She thinks she may have been pressing the door open button at the same time (the button down the right in the middle). The dang thing is still not accepting the password ("Password does not match"), but she is happy that she knows how to open it.

I have the Same problem! i cannot find the manual on the internet and i never got one since i bought from craigslist. If you figured it out please let me know. Iv tried everything, searching to the ends of the internet, emailing any company that has anything to do with it, with no responses. Please let me know how you fixed it if you did.
