Just on a lap top not a editing suit with additional hardware? Can you hear MP3 files played in ITunes? (if not speakers or sound card hardware issue) Can you hear new files captured (if so recapturing quickest)?

Did you capture as HDV? When you render is it ok? Some times it is best to capture as DV not HDV the quality will be as good (letter boxed) but it means fce is not having to decode the mpg4 compression of HDV in realtime. Can lead to a jolting due to extram RAM usage.

Depends how you are out putting the signal and the aspect of the original source footage. If firewire insure input select is hdv / dv, iee. And that remote is selected (if that deck has a remote option). Ensure the aspect ratio is correct as a sequence setting mark the area with an in and out and select in/out in the print to video window. Away you go, unless the tape is for broadcast (which I doubt as HDV is not generally a deliverable format).
