Hello: I have a 53" Hitachi Rear Projection

This model should use two of the STK-392-150 CONVERGENCE CHIPS---(some use 392-110 chips--both are the same but the 150 chips are higher output and last longer) both chips and any bad resistors around them (most are low value and easy to test) will need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

If magic focus will not correct the problem---the chips are bad.

This can be a do it yourself job if you have some skills; I can tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair (TOTAL PARTS COST FOR A PAIR OF THE CHIPS ETC ON EBAY WILL BE UNDER 25 DOLLARS) AND this is much less expensive than what any shop would charge you.

I have done over 1,000 repairs of this type and know from hands on experience what is needed and how to get the best results.

Let me know by responding to this post if you have questions and if this solution told you something of value rate it as "very helpful" as I do this here for free.

Hello,

Likely it is appearing because one of the picture tubes (there are 3, red, blue, green) has a focusing voltage that is disproportionate from the others, and is drifting.

I would think that your power supply is beginning to fail, or one of you tubes is beginning to fail.

Blue streak across the top of the television and

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
•Screen looks 3D
•Colors don't line up
•One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
•Screen is bowed or warped.
•TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Here are some photos of convergence problems

Hitachi 50gx30b to much red

Hello survivor1,

You may have a malfunctioning red CRT. This is usually caused by a shorted grid and cathode in the CRT in question. What you can do is get a qualified TV technician to try to remove the grid cathode short by using a CRT rejuvenator. This is not a costly procedure and can be done in the home.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

My daughter un-plugged wi game from front of tv

If there is no power at all, and TV iscompletely dead, then it is either power cord or power supply.

If after the fault the TV went in standby and does not wake up, then the TV has on protect mode after detecting a fault.
When this happens higher voltages are shut down to prevent further damage.

Before calling support ensure that you have followed the indications here:Why my TV does not start up and remains in standby.

Troubleshooting basically consists in leaving the TV unplugged to drain power completely and discharge internal circuits.

The best way to contact an authorized technician is by ringing the number listed on the owners manual. Alternatively try Fixya directory here:Fixya directory- Consumer Products Repair

Try first the troubleshooting proposed in link above. If that does not work, ring customer service.

Regarding the repair cost, this depends on the part that is defective. A common fault is the power supply, but this is not necessarily the problem.
The technician must test internal parts to find out why TV is in protect mode.A repair that involves parts replacement may start at $150/$200 if the part is PSU or convergence ICs (other common fault), to over $400 if main board, optical group, or more parts must be replaced.

For parts try Partstore.

Regards.

Ginko.

HITACHI 53UDX10B Projection TV: Convergence Board

They just pop off ~ pull up and out on the right side of "bridge". Then just fold carefully up and our of the way so you can get at the board. You do not have to remove both sides of these. Very simple ~ just becareful not to twist so you're not bending and weaking the wires.

The high tension module has failed. The tv must be opened and tested by a pro - too many things can go wrong there for an amateur to dabble in.
