BLUE SHADOW, HOW DO I GET INTO THE CONVERGENCE ADJUSTMENT!!!!
If you mean that one of the colors has suddenly drooped toward the center, creating a curve along the side where the colors no longer line up, it means that one of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. You should not play with the convergence settings when this happens because when the IC is replaced, the settings will be all out and have to be reset. It is a good idea to replace both STK392-110 IC's with the newer improved STK392-150's. If you have never replaced convergence IC's or realigned convergence circuits then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

Out of the blue a large black box shows up in the middle of the screen. It is a perfect rectangle and takes up about 80% of the screen. When you move the volume button or change a channel it goes away but comes right back. Used to be able to get to HD channels and it would not happen, now it happens on all channels regardless of the input, DVD, Cable box, direct cable.
When a black box appears on the screen it means that your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. When the closed captions are set to CC1, it puts the words on the screen and when set to TEXT it puts a black box in the center of the screen. Go into the set's menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.

Hi, I have a brand new in the box screen for a 50 inch rear projection tv. I was going to put it on ebay but if this is what you need and what I have--well we can go from there. Email me with any questions you may have. Thanks, [email protected]

This is a background for text, even though you aren't seeing any text at the time. Since it covers most of the screen, it sounds more like a demo mode screen than closed captioning. Go into your setup menu and make sure that neither of those is selected. If necessary, restore the factory settings. I'm assuming that this is coming from the tv itself, and that you don't have a VCR, Tivo, etc. Good luck!

Can lay the rear projection TV on its side when moving?
I would not lay it on it's side unless there is no other option. Then I would be very careful. TVs should be transported right side up.

I have a Hitachi SBX Ultravision 50" rear projection tv...the tv turned off automatically, and now won't turn back on at all. I unplugged it for a week, and when I plugged it back in, the red power light came on for a few seconds and then powered off again automatically. What is the problem and is there something I can replace to fix this?
This is a very common problem on your Hitachi model and an easy DIY fix. You can get the correct parts and instructions for this exact fix on www.TvRepairKits.com
