Presuming you cleaned the lens and the mirror you may have a problem in (yes) the power supply---some of these develop an issue where the filament voltage for the 3 picture tubes goes down as a resistor in the supply from age goes UP in resistance---going to need a meter and a service manual to find that.If that is beyond you then consider getting a tech or a shop to look at the set.Let me know if you have questions.

The click is a power relay on the main board and if the red light is on I would suggest looking inside to see if it has more than one relay--follow the power cord into the set----some of these sets have one relay but others have up to 3.They are know for sticking open or shut. A tap on them can free them..A look inside even by a novice may also reveal something burnt or unplugged etc.view of relay bottom side is up.

Replacing the coolant is not going to help a dark picture and is not for a do it yourself repair---it is toxic and dangerous to replace unless qualified.

Well, that explains a lot----mirror or the lens or even the screen may be coated with grime-----be careful if you attempt to clean that screen, easy to damage and expensive to replace--what about the mirror and the 3 lens?

This set had lots of audio problems- some idiot decided to put the entire audio circuit on a single compact board---it develops all kinds of bad solder connections on the numerous flat Pak chips on both top and bottom of the board.Board no longer available from Hitachi (srs board) and rebuild usually is over 150 plus shipping.We send the board out for that as I have seen top notch experts spend hours trying to solder the board and not after have a working set.Hitachi just crammed too many parts in too small an area and the heat bakes the board---Understand I was seeing this failure when these sets first came out--failing after a week or two in someones home.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems. Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.

Here is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos aroundimages. the problem here is Hitachi usually if it still has it sells all three screens as a unit---expensive.You may want to search with GOOGLE the internet as some companies sell replacement "protective" screen replacements.I have even seen one time someone found a piece of plexi-glass and had it cut to the exact size and thickness for a replacement.

Static would indicate a lock up exists.If you had a power outage it will cause this.UNPLUG SET FOR TEN MINUTES AND PLUG BACK IN AND SET SHOULD RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION.

First press the menu button on the television, if it pops up the menu list, then it means the cable is faulty. Try to hook up your television to dvd player to confirm if the picture will come on, if it does, that confirms it that it is the cable that is faulty.
But if the test shows it is not the cable, then it means the t-con board of the television is bad and need to be replaced. Also check the Y and Z sus.
Replacing the t-con board will definitely solve the problem for you.

The tv have a problems known as a convergence picture problems it is dead.The tv have any colors lines like R,G,B mis alignments,tv have any colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures look alike?Yes,than the tv convergence board it is dead and the causes of these problems.The tv convergence board must have to repair like replacing like 2 STk covergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fixed the tv convegence board to solved the tv convergence picture problems.The tvs shops will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.

This problem is very common with rear projection TV's.

It is related to one or more of the colour guns being out of alignment or needing to be replaced. The only way to correct this issue is to have a technician come in and fix it or bring it into a repair center. I personally would suggest purchasing a new TV. The cost of getting them aligned is usually more then a basic LCD.

The original MSRP was 4100 I believe.
