Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone outProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem. Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

How can I fix it? The magic foucs goes to two or three lines and goes back to the picture. The sides are blurry, like red and green.

it should be on all the time unless total power loss..

If you want Hitachi Google Hitachi customer service to locate that.

Set may have experienced a power loss (only easy answer) so if you have not done so unplug it from power for a while and try again.Failing that it is likely not going to get fixed in the home.

check board either the connector popped off from vacuum or its no good one board for power control and other sound and picture

If no red light problem is most likely on the power board---set used up to 3 mechanical black power relays and sometimes they stick open or shut---follow cord inside and tap on them to see if one is causing the problem.

Comment by other expert is a valid one----also look with color turned off to see if screen is black and white or another color.Set does based on model given have 3 picture tubes---a peek inside with set on will reveal if red, green and blue tubes (lens point up) are lit or not.

This model does not use a "lamp" but has 3 picture tubes instead.What is the problem with the set? What is it doing or not doing?

I have a Hitachi 57F59 tv. I've read that these models are very similar. With out knowing for sure if they are alike or not, on the XXF59 you have to take the speaker grill first. There are some screws holding the bottom part of the screen. there are also screws holding the sides and top part of the screen that go in through the back side of the screen frame. Once ALL the screws are out is just a matter of pulling the screen out. Cleaning the mirror and lenses is the the start to have a great picture on these sets. There are plenty of tweaks and of course calibration that will make these sets compete or surpassed even the newest TVs.Enjoy your new set!!!BMW ACCESSORIES.

question makes no sense--set can be direct entered--what is set not doing like NO reception on cable etc?

yes but rather expensive---over 450 from Hitachi.

check with the site www.tvrepairkits.com - i believe this is a known issue that they have a fix for already

it either pulls out or lifts up and out---before you attempt this what are you hoping to do? The lens can be cleaned from rear of set and the mirror rarely needs cleaning.

why do you want to get the screen off?

clean the lens from rear of set with it unplugged and rear cover removed.

Two things to try here---first is unplug the set for a while and plug back to see if the microprocessor in the set will reboot.Second look to see if slot for the card has anything at all in it or is dirty. if dirty blow it clean and repeat unplug procedure Note: very few of these sets have a hard reset feature but if all else fails call Hitachi customer service with the model number---they have some very good people answering the phones and an extensive data base on sets/problems.
