I would not pay 100 for it. maybe 20. If the screen is dark that would mean there is something going wrong with it. It will most likely cost more than 100 to repair. Unless you find parts on ebay and fix it yourself.

The power light is red on this model.

It may be the Lamp engine.

This is caused by a defective Light engine. The LCDs get contaminated from the heat of the lamp over a period of time causing discoloraton of the picture. The only way to repair this is to replace the light engine assembly, you might be able to purchase one at the following site, www.tristatemodule.com..

i have a hitachi 46f500 rear projection hd t.v., i get a yellow and blue images i still can see other colours behind, i would like to know how to fix this problem.and if its a part i have to buy let me know thank you in advance.

If the blotches and dots change depending upon source like DVD, air, and so forth (actually depending on video format 720, 1080, etc), then it is likely a driver issue that controls the display. If the artifacts are there all the time, then you may be looking at the panel itself.

if within warranty, then start with Hitachi for repairs. If out of warranty, a local electronics retailers should be able to direct you to a service center that can repair it for you. Otherwise, a rent-to-own outfit may be able to fix it in house and you pay the store directly.

Depends if you replace the lamp and clean the fans for bulb and pull apart projector on your own you could make it pretty cost effective. If you have someone else do it probably not worth the cost.

You need to have the light engine assembly replaced on this set. It is generally not an inexpensive repair, and sometimes Hitachi light engines can be hard to come by as brand new ones.

You might be able to find a repair company that can locate a refurb or rebuilt one.

Expect to pay over $1K for the engine + $200 or more for labor. So.....if you can live with it in its present, abashed state, great. If you can't....

You have a bad light engine. Contact hitachi(customer service) and let them kown what the symptom is. They know that there is a problem with these light engines. Let them know that you have seen on the net, that there are alot of complaints with this kind of problem. Hopefully they will give you the light engine and you will have to pay for a service call. The reason I know this is they replaced mine and I had to pay $300 for the service call. Keep complaining until they do something for you.The light engine is about $500 if you have to buy one. Hope this is helpful.

If is the lamp and temp light on the front panel, then it could be that the bulb (lamp) needs to be replaced. Make sure you buy an original replacement lamp (phillips) they are supposed to last longer. There are also videos on you-tube that show you how to replace the lamp. Hopw this is helpful.

More than likely the bulb needs to be replaced. Ypu might try and un plug the set for about 3 min's then plug it back in. See if the temp light goes out. If it does, and the lamp light is still on then it is the bulb. If you check on the net you can find a service manual. It will show you where the temp sensor is located, and alot of other info too. Hope this is helpful.

I would check to see if any of the fans stop turning or don't turn when set turns on. They do have sensors monitoring them and the set will shut down if they are not turning. I believe there are three fans around the chassis.
