Hitachi 50VS810 50" Rear Projection HDTV blue power button blinking

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. https://homenol.blogspot.com/ https://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty. Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, [Exclude the model number] in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

What is convergence IC problem

Convergence has to do with how different colors are displayed on a screen or monitor - typically the rear projection and some other types. When colors are overlapping to create unexpected combinations, or leave gaps between areas where overlapping is expected that results in a shifted red, green or blue image strip or edge - that is an indication of a convergence issue. They can look like this in severe cases: c31c1afa-63aa-42ee-9cc7-7b07e09559be.jpg Colors will drift, so manufacturers often include a utility to help you nudge the colors back in the right place. Most times this utility is buried in the Set Up Menu and when activated, produces a screen like this: 6c0170ed-2cd6-4dfa-bbcb-a10a7d20f92f.jpg You will need to adjust the red, green and blue colors for each cross so that only a white cross is displayed. Keep red, green and blue fringing to a minimum. When you're done, the screen should look black and white, symmetrical and straight - like this: 40e4c7a6-f241-4888-a151-d21b0792cb71.gif Problems arise when you are no longer able to coax the utility to give you these crisp, B&W results with no red, blue or green ghosting. This is often due to a failing convergence integrated circuit ("Convergence IC"). Many times, replacing it will solve the problem, but other times it can be the result of failing components either ahead or after this IC. If you're attempting to replace this IC, please make sure the TV or monitor has been *unplugged* for 24 hours or more to allow the dangerously high voltages to dissipate.

Diagram for cooling fans that controls the lamp on a Hitachi TV

I have not seen this model Hitachi but I have never seen one with 2 fans for the lamp---in all cases there is usually only one-Hitachi only offers service manuals online and only to authorized repair shops with a user name and password. If two fans ARE involved it is unlikely both would be bad---flying by the seat of our pants I would suggest if possible to check the voltage at the fans---or even spin them to see if they will suddenly work---dirt can cause a fan to slow or stop and the set would either shut down or issue some kind of "fan failure" or temperature warning.I am willing to help as much as possible and I understand the desire for a diagram but that is unlikely.Let me know if I can assist or such in any way---I do this here for free but am here to help people.SD TECH

Picture quality is dim. There's also a continuous crackling sound emanating from the rear area, I believe in the area where the lamp goes. Is this merely a lamp problem?

check the lamp ballast board which may the cause of dim and crackling sound. check for bad high voltage transformer and dry joints connector at the ballast board.

Hitachi LCD M50VS810 -- picture gradually darkened up over the past 4 days and now picture won't come on. Replace bulb?

If it uses a lamp that is possible---sets with a lamp will often dim down just before the lamp fails in a total way.
