This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

Double images purple and green. try to convergence

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

How to clean the project television. There is a

Hello
To clean the lens and mirrors of your projection tv follow up please.

Unplug the TV from the power supply. Never undertake any type of repairs on electric equipment without first disconnecting from power. Take care in handling any electric parts, as some may contain a residual charge that can shock you.

Remove screws from the back cover and connection area of the TV. Be sure to put them in a safe place, or on a piece of paper with notations for where each one fits in the television

Gently remove the back cover. Locate the mirror and three projection "guns," as these are what you want to clean eventually

Use a camera lens cleaning cloth (or other very soft and gentle cloth) to clean the mirror and lens. Gently remove any other dust before closing the TV.

Replace the back cover and screws. Plug back in the power supply

Turn on the television. Check to see that everything works correctly and that your picture is now clearer

How do i adjust the coverganc it look all 3d

I had this problem a long time ago, and it took me a while to realize what you were asking. Basically, a light has either lost power, or gone out of place. It will cost around $200+ to fix this problem. I had to deal with it for nearly a year before just not watching TV anymore. I eventually got a new TV, because fixing these problems are very expensive. Attempting a fix by yourself is dangerous.

This is a problem with the convergence circuit. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These ICs are large and black, attached to a heat sink and are marked STKxxx.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Remote control will not change

Make sure the battery contacts inside the remote are clean (you can use a qtip and alcohol). You can check to see if the infrared is working by aiming the remote while pushing it's buttons, and taking a picture of it with a camcorder...the infrared will show up as a white light on the playback, and you will know if the remote is putting out it's signal.
Other than that, the buttons inside the remote could be dusty, or dirty, and need cleaning.
If that doesn't get it working, the tv's receiver unit could be faulty, in which case you would need to have it serviced.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Ok, so I've ordered the new IC's, and tested all

The fan will do no good--the reason the chips fail is the heat sink grease dries out---make sure when you replace the chips you remove all the old compound and apply new grease.

The back of the chips are metal and the grease transfers heat quickly---even with a fan the grease will dry out in 5-8 years.

Cheaper when you consider on EBAY you can buy a pair of the chips for about 12 dollars to replace them if needed every 5-8 years.

If this information helped you, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

If you have questions ask me.

Screen has gone dark good sound, suspect lens need

To remove the front panel, there are 2 screws on each side of the lower gray panel that need removed, than, behind that, there is a wood panel with 6 screws that needs to be removed. I just pulled mine off last night actually!
