LG RU-42PX10 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television - Page 5 Questions & Answers
My LG 42"tv shuts off by it self
hello,
The best way to fix this is by opening the back cover of the television set.
The power light may be flashing or if you are runing with a series light bulb it may be cycling on and off continuously. There may be a chirping or clicking sound from inside the set. (Note: using too small a series light bulb load during testing for the size of the TV may also result in this condition.)
If there is a low voltage regulator or separate switching supply, it could be cycling on and off if the horizontal output, flyback, or one of its secondary loads were defective.
Does this TV have a separate low voltage regulator and/or switching power supply or is it all part of the flyback circuit? For the following, I assume it is all in one (most common).
Some simple things to try first:
Verify that the main filter capacitor is doing its job. Excessive ripple on the rectified line voltage bus can cause various forms of shutdown behavior. An easy test is to jumper across the capacitor with one of at least equal voltage rating and similar capacitance (make connections with power off!).
Use a Variac, if possible, to bring up the input voltage slowly and see if the TV works at any point without shutting down. If it does, this could be an indication of X-ray protection circuit kicking in, though this will usually latch and keep the set shut off if excessive HV were detected.

Hello Fixya customer,
Thank you for your question.
The are a couple of possibilities here including the logic board, lower "Y" board, lower "Y" buffers, and PDP panel. The "Y" is divided into into the lower and upper half of the screen. An experienced technician can quickly isolate the fault upon inspection and verify the supply voltages.
Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can be of further assistance please let me know.

What do you mean by negative picture? Lisghts are dark and darks are light??
Or is the entire screen dark - but you can see faint images??
A more descript picture of the problem at hand can help us better solve your problem.
Thanks!!
LG Plasma RU-42PX42 Trying to get sound to the
Sound only works on the left screen on Double Window and Big Window when in PIP. I will keep working to resolve. My new Sony does this very well. Computer on the big screen and the "news" on the small window....
The sound works but the picture don't show
Hi
This is more than likely your Y Sustain board that has failed.
Take the back of your tv and look to the left hand side, you will see a main board connected to 2 x buffer boards that connect to the screen via ribbons.
Take the part number of the main board and Google or Ebay for a replacement.
98% of the time this will cure your problem.
Hope this helps
Pop-then no brightness
Does your picture look really, really, dark? If so, your Z-SUS board (right side with the back cover off, attached to the panel by wide copper ribbons) has failed. You can simply replace the board and be on your way. You should use the PN found on the part (white sticker with a 2D barcode). It will look something like this: 6871QZH033A
LG RU-42PX10C I replaced the
I'm regretfully informing you that, this problem is near the fact that the panel is starting to get bad.
But, you need to check first the back lights. There are small diameter lamps behind the LCD screen, check it or replace if you find any defective components.
IMPORTANT: LCD is a high voltage part of the TV, if you're not sure how to check it. I would suggest to contact a pro.
I'm hoping that it's only the back lights that are giving the problem and not the panel.
Good luck!
Hi , was watching my 42 inch LG Plasma TV last
Sounds like a capacitor blew on one of the boards. Can you detect any burnt electronic smell? If the Cap blew on the Power Supply, you can either replace the Capacitor or replace the power supply board. The boards are between $79 and $149 depending where you get it. Some of the other boards, Y or Z Sus, are between $179 and $300. If you can't do it yourself, and with many 42" models selling for $649 to $899, it might be too expensive to fix.
You can find the boards on ebay or shopjimmy, youtube has videos showing how to replace them. Hope that helps.
Mine just did the same thing. Seems funny that
This popping sounds are capacitors giving out now if there replaced this tv will last more years, Recommedations : repair shop
I know you came here for a fix but this requires hands on thiscannot be fixed via email its a hard ware issue and needs a tv repair shop or good eletrical engineer. If you want to give it a shot youtube.com has some very good info on how to change out capacitors but word of warning they hold voltage and they can put you into the ER quick so if you do not feel up to it let the experts at the shop handle it for you.

I have an LG RU-42PX10C
There are two different versions of main LOGIC board that are compatible with this particular model
Part numbers:
6871QCH034A or
6870QCE014B.
Take a look at the board and see which one of them matches with your set and let me know. Also let me know any version no you see next to the part number

My 42 inch plasma wasnt working, i change the z
1.It sounds as though there is a problem in the power supply section and it is blowing a linking component to the board mention.
2. this is only isolated with a schematic and proper electronic detection such as a Scope and meter.
3. You also may have a circuit that gives voltage to the plate that gives light to the luminous plate that may need service.
I have a 42" LG
Hi
Thanks
for using FixYa. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is
working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it
produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by
overheating problems. X, Y sustain, buffer boards controls
picture, fires the gas, and many others functions. When either of these boards goes
bad common problems include negative image, no image, vertical or horizontal
stripes on picture, turns on and than turns off, and many more. You’ll need to
open the back off the TV and check for any swollen/bulged/leaky capacitors on these
boards and replace whichever has gone bad. All this is only recommended if you
have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these
units contain high voltages even when switched off.
Please do
accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further
assistance.
Thanks
Rylee
