I connected my laptop to

What kind of cable? VGA? DVI? HDMI?
Did you use the combination keys, Fn and either F4, 5, 6, or 7 on your laptop (depend on brand) to select internal/external/both display functions?

I have an LG42PX5D- AB - I receive sound but know

Often this is an indication of a problem with the BACKLIGHT or the INVERTER CIRCUIT.

Is the screen illuminated but without a video signal or is the screen completely dark?

Does the TV screen glow at all when you turn it on, or is it completely black even when viewed in a darkened room?

If the problem is just the backlight or inverter circuit, there is a chance that it is a relatively easy fix.

Please comment back on this page with the above information and I will be able to assist you further.

Thank you.

Joe.

My LG 42" flat screen TV has sound, but no

Hello
From what you described either the screen driver has failed or the backlight has.
If you get a bright torch and shine it close to screen, you may be able to see a very dark picture.
If you can its the screen backlight that has failed.
Either way you will have to take it be be repaired but you may find the cost rather high and will have to decide if it is worth it or to get a new TV.

Hello, My tv is about 5yrs old.We heard a loud

Hi,
You need to replace Y main board & buffer, which will cost you around $600-700. Since the TV is five years it will be better to go with new, and it won't be worth enough to spend $700 for old TV.

Hope this helps.

Vertical coloured lines down right

No, gas problems would have generated failures all over the screen, not in distinct lines.
No, these lines are caused by badly functioning buffer boards: the chips on it that directly control those specific lines of pixels overheat and start to malfunction. The problem is getting worse because the status of the chips is getting worse: they need less and less time before starting to fail. In the end it will fail for good and those lines will be permanently on the screen.
The faulty buffer board will have to be replaced. You should call a repairman to do it - to access them the entire tv must be completely dismantled and this is a very tricky operation in a plasma tv. On top of that the replacement board is very hard to obtain by a regular person, it will have to be ordered at the dealer. Fortunately it's not an expensive part - less than $40 per piece.

Hello

To retune your Lg tv, do the following. At first connect the antenna socket at its back side with antenna firmly.

- Run EZ Scan again after any Antenna/Cable connection changes.

1. Press the MENU button and then use UP/DOWN button to select the SETUP menu.

2. Press the FORWARD => button and then use UP/DOWN button to select EZ Scan.

3. Press the ENTER button to begin the channel search.
Allow EZ Scan to complete the channel search cycle for ANTENNA, and CABLE

I have a LG 42P X5D when there is a dark colour in

This is a common fault on all LG sets with few people offering any solutions. I can offer a solution that could remove 95% if not 100% of the dots.
Remove the back of the set, there are about 40 screws. On the left hand side on a circuit board you will see 3 or 4 blue plastic boxes with yellow screw adjusters in them. The only 2 you are interested in are VR3 "setup" and VR2 "setdn". Mark the location with a marker pen so that you know where the factory settings were. Then turn VR3 fully clockwise. If this does not get rid completely do the same with VR2. This worked for me today, I was about to throw the TV away but I now have a 95% improved screen, sharper and more vibrant picture and saved hundreds. It only took about 20 minutes to do too. Hope it works.

42 inch LG tv shuts

Hello,

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

Hope this will in solving the problem,,,,,

I have a lg plasma and im trying to connect it to

It sounds like you are using the wrong audio input jack, by chance are you using the audio cable with RED and WHITE RCA to mini stereo plug ?
If you look at the VGA port on the the TV, you will see a small mini phone jack (PC audio) close by, that will be for the sound input when TV is in PC mode.
Please verify for me.
