Often this is caused by something falling into device tip the device with the open tray so the tray points down and shake it gently if this does not fix the problem it is probably a mechanical fault with a gear or a censor

I have a Nakamichi Soundspace
No. In your unit the display is of a Digitron type, it works similarly with a neon tube: a high voltage (between 40 and 50 volts) is set between an an digit element = cathode covered in fluorescent material and an transparent anode; when the voltage is increased over the lighting point the cathode becomes lit; all of the elements are in a flat tube that has been vacuumed and filed with neon and argon.
If all the elements are off then either
1 - the seal on the tube has failed and air got in = the display is dead and replacing it will cost more than a new unit.
or
2 - either the high tension or the display controller
has failed - fixing it is quite expensive and labor intensive and a job that only a very experienced repairman can do. You will have to decide if the unit is worth keeping and fixing or for a little more money you should just buy a new one.
