I've got a 2 TB

Is the PC you've used before is the operating system is windows Xp? If you've using windows Xp before then you've plug it in a windows 7 Operating system, it means your hard disc have no problem the operating system of your PC is different than before. Try to plug it in a windows Xp operating system then recover it in there then format it in a windows 7 operating system then, the windows Xp and windows 7 try to make a network place in the connection then share the hard disc files that you've recovered then copy and paste it in the newly format hard drive that formated in a windows 7 operating system.

Asus laptop with Win7 64 bit asks to format WD

you are not swapping from mAC to PC and back , right?try other USB ports.many external drives do not run with out an external power pack.elements, use 4 diffr. 18watt power packs, Are you using the right one? so plug that in ,first. then plug in USB , w7 must go Ding dongor the USB is DEAD. (use this as #1 fact to follow)then put ear to the case of drive, hear it spin?if not ,there is no power, for SURE.solve that first.ok, it spins. (soft whirl\'g sound, do this when new to memorize how GOOD sounds)for a tests, leave the USB cable , not connected.let w7 boot to the desktop.now plug in the USB HDD, cable.W7 goes, Ding dong.then see the USB icon in the tray, does it see the drive>?Y/n?click on that tray icon, i see USB to ATPI bridge then...My externals (have many) shows as Z:/external below , bridge....if not , USB is failing. yes, ding dong, yes Icon, yes see drive above.!then go to disk manager, type those 2 words in the run box.start +run " disk manager"CP(controlpanel)+computer management +disk management.does disk manager see this spinning drive.mine shows,. DISK 2 and is letter coded Z:if not , the USB port is not working. or the drive is not with power.if disk manager shows the drive, the assign a letter to said drivenow program manager can see the drive, with this letter Z.it dont need to be Z , per ce\' but that letter is a nice flag.step by step.oops it has green tech, that means it goes to sleep.make sure you turn that off first. or it may not show up at all.it\'s so green its , invisible? wd on their DL page has a spin down utility, use that.

I've had my WD Elements

It sounds like you had a control hardware failure.... what is referred to in the tech industry (somewhat distastefully) as "Infant Mortality". The drive controller electronics failed

You should return your drive for a warranty exchange ASAP.

Sorry for whatever data you lost on your drive.... sometimes it can be recovered by a specialty service, but the cost is prohibitive to most of us. Since you brought the problem to FixYa, my guess is that you are not a zillionaire who can afford a bill that can easily go into the thousands to recover what was on your drive...if it is recoverable....often, it is not.

These drives are extremely reliable, and you just had the misfortune of getting a bad one. Chances are it will not happen again.

The only caution I can offer is to avoid ESD, or electrostatic discharge. Before you connect, find a large piece of metal like the base of a lamp, a file cabinet, whatever may be close to your workstation or PC and touch it before connecting- this will drain any charge you may have picked up moving around- a common occurance in the winter, when the air is dry. If you comb/brush your hair, remove a coat, sweater, etc, and hear crackling, this is ESD and it can permanently damage electronics.

Good luck, and thank you for using FixYa!'

You can download a full functioning 30 day eval @ http://www.jam-software.com/tree.html Background b> A network drive is a disk or tape drive connected to a server in the network that is shared by multiple users, according to PCMag.com. A network drive can also be called a remote drive. b> Benefits b> A network drive is typically on a server. Servers normally are always on, so the information on the drive is always available. Information stored on the drive is accessible on any computer on the network. Significance b> The implications of network drive technology on computer mobility are significant. Network drive software that allows a person to connect to a network drive via the Internet is available. You may access files from home or work from any computer with an Internet connection, even if you're thousands of miles away. Run Network Repair From CMD b> The command-line interface for Microsoft Windows is accessible through the "Command Prompt" utility in the "Accessories" folder. The command prompt is particularly useful for network diagnostics and repair. For example, you can issue the "ping" command from the command prompt to test for and verify network connectivity. You can issue commands to repair the Windows networking from the command prompt instead of using the built-in diagnostic wizards that sometime provide less information than the command line. Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of the screen. Type "cmd" without quotes. Press "Ctrl," "Shift" and "Enter" simultaneously on the keyboard. Click "Yes." Type "ipconfig /release" and press "Enter." Type "ipconfig /renew" and press "Enter." Fix Network Device Driver Errors b> A network device driver is a small program that enables a network device to communicate with the computer's operating system, as well as with other computers connected to a network. Errors may occur if the network device driver becomes corrupted because of viruses and other causes. You can fix errors by following the steps laid out below. Check the information that came with your network device for compatibility issues; you need to know whether it is compatible with your computer, as well as the version of Windows you are using. Check if the network device is properly attached to the computer. Click on the "Start" button then choose "All programs." Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the list of options. Select "Device Manager" from the "Properties window." In the "Device Manager" window, click the plus sign (+) beside the "Network adapters." This will list all the network devices installed. The network device that has an error should also have a yellow exclamation point right beside the network device icon. Double-click on the network device icon that causes the error. On the "General" tab, click on the "Troubleshoot" button and answer the "Troubleshoot Wizard's" questions. Follow the resolution steps provided by the "Troubleshoot wizard." If Step 3 does not work, check if your hardware or network device came with a software disc. Use the disc to install the network device on your computer. Follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer. You can also go to the manufacturer's website to check for updates available for the device driver. If no updates are available, try manually updating the driver. Getting an updated network device driver will prevent any conflicts from arising in the future. Go back to the "Device manager" window. Double click on the device that you need to update. This should bring up a small window that has the device's properties. Click on the "Driver" tab and choose "Update Driver." Reboot your computer, if necessary. If the network device still shows an error, Go back to the device manager, right-click on the device that shows an error and select "Uninstall." Restart your computer and open the "Device Manager" again as soon as the machine is back up. Right-click on the device and then choose "Scan for hardware changes." If the device continues to malfunction, the hardware or device may already be corrupted. Consider getting professional assistance from from a computer technician. Hope this helps. b>

My Hard drive dosen't work again the system could not recognize it.

Good Day.
Don't know if your external hard drive has power led on it, that comes on when connected to the PC. If it has these led, does it come on when connected to the PC? If no, then I believe there's is problem in the connection within the external Hard disk. So maybe you buy a new cord or you just have to change the connection panel or buy a hard disk casing that has the panel for connection in it.

Or, if the led give light, do you feel any movement (or rolling) within the external hard disk when connected? If yes then it's still working, just try the first recommendation.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa!
