Seagate Barracuda 7200 fault: Hello A. Is the drive internal or external use? Could be several reasons: The head has crashed. The driver is corrupt or missing. The controller board on HDD has failed. Data or power connector / cable loose. Disk has overheated and failed. Open the PC and check cables. Check ventilation. Is disk clicking or getting very hot? If external, check connecting cables. Download latest driver from Seagate. If all else fails, take system to computer sales / service center. They may be able to diagnose the fault for you. The final option, but very costly, is professional data recovery.

Download testdisk and run it to see if it recognised in the list. If so use the intel option to find a boot sector

If you are using it as a external drive you will find in my computer. If your using it as a new main drive it may have to be formatted .

Hi, HDD not Detecting only Some region, if you HDD data cable damage, HDD power Cable damage, HDD port damage, or HDD bad sector. But normally you change HDD data or power cable or mother board port. What operating system? Windows? If so, what version? Linux? Mac?

It could be a corrupt system file or a corrupt section in the MBR of the drive. If you have critical data on the drive that needs backed up, then I recommend that you (from another machine of course) download a live cd version of linux to boot into along with an external usb hard drive. You can then mount your existing drive and copy your data to the external usb drive for a backup of data. I would recommend either PclinuxOS, Knoppix or Puppy Linux. Exit once backup is complete.

Next, boot your machine with either a restore disk received with the purchase of your computer, or if unavailable, boot to a system disk of your current operating system (such as windows xp, etc.). This MIGHT require a fresh install of the operating system - thus the reason for doing a backup of data first. If however, there is a bad sector in the drive's MBR then you're ultimately looking at replacement of the hard drive and then performing a restore or a fresh install of the operating system.

lets get all of the details first you say you cant access the hard drive then the message cant be formatted how are you trying to format the hard drives what procedure??? will need more imformation a hard drive must be formatted from a ""third party disc""

Yes, normally new drives do need to be formatted.

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if your computer came with a disc the drivers could be on it hope this helps

click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

Depends on what you are using the hard drive for. For example if this hard drive is going to be used for multimedia then I would recommend a hard drive around 120Gb to 1TB, but if it's for a small office with MS Windows XP installed it should be just enough to host the operating system and a limited amount of programs, hope this help, best of luck

Hi,
I've got bad news for you . Your hard drive is damaged for sure and you will need to replace it . It's totaly impossible to install a OS on a damaged drive and at least not recommended .
To retreive data , you will need to disconnect the drive and read it in a external box from a healthy computer .
The chance that the issue would be due to a defect SCSI connection is extremely small .

If you go ahead and format the hard drive, fromatting will lock out these bad sectors.
Bad sectors can indicate that the hard drive is wearing out especially if the number of bad sectors increase as you use the hard disk and if this is the case then back up your data regularly so you won't lose your data when this hard drives fail completely. I would consider retiring this hard drive ASAP.
Bad sectors are usually cause by the magnetic oxide layer on the platters wearing out or breaking down.
