Hi, I just bought an HP

hello. (the fan turns on, then off , that it?) a PC that self turns off, is power overloaded. tell what the fan does heck even clean it . NO OS stated, why post lacking that.? xp, w7/8/10????? vista? NO method for restore stated, must we guess? what MEDIA"?
  1. hammered the F11 key for HP magic recovery(best)
  2. used the HP recover disks with HP logos on top. ????
  3. used Microsoft disk (bad bad idea, unless you want to find all those missing HP drivers and put them all back as 1,2, does above. for free. ask we can find them see last link ....
so what does shutting down mean.? just windows (unstated) bad, locks up or goes BSOD. or does it mean the PC turns its self 100% off, silent fan silent HDD? dead silent from fan ok and hdd sounds ok. if it really turns off, then take out that huge battery there. they short, get it out of there first, run on AC pack forever. you can. so this is always first, and only takes, 4 minutes work. Does it run now,(btw , power loss has 10 to 20 causes not 1) we sometimes have to strip a system to find what shorted. things in the real world can short, many things. in fact. NEXT: then do the long reset posted on HP real site 1,000,000 times. there. endlessly. with main battery out, ac pack pulled.(both) push power button for 10 to 30 seconds. this resets sleep modes ,etc. put back only AC pack ONLY, does it turn on now and say on , does the fan work the fan must work and not be packed in lint. ok if it stay on (fan /hdd sounds) then we do BIOS NEXT. PCs boot in a serial order , in fact. does the F10 ey works as it prompt you for 7 years do you get text? ever? power on, see text do as it states, "hit F10 to enter hp setup" means to hammer F10 to enter bios. do so now. F10 is BIOS page entry command, this screen is LED so the back lamps never fail, like earlier owns do. leaving what, next, if no text or BIOS acts up, or BIOS time and date are wrong, then RTC CMOS coin cell is dead. new one. now. Coins fail at 7 years on average. a cheap and easy fix. when the coin goes dead, BIOS goes dead with it (goes mad) if that is ok and just the HDD will not boot,. then try F11 magic key. F11 is full recovery to day one stated, HP OS, (unstated) and all HP magic driver are renewed, this is the correct way. if the HDD has been slammed, F11 will be dead now. for ever. if F11 is dead, we then test the HDD. all in this order. your PC is 2010, like mine, so 7 years old is on the cusp of coin cell bad,(but usually are ok now, if lucky like my 3 are) full support page is here. the real support page at HP,. Fixya is not HP ,not now or ever. https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-probook-4520s-notebook-pc/4145198/manuals how to test a HDD, if the motor is silent it is dead. ear to side of drive, dead silent (PC fan running sure) all test here are free. zero cost. just work. http://www.pcdied.com/brick-dead.html so the power button is pushed the fan turns on right>? then goes dead silent,? surely you can tell what fan does , sounds and if text ever lands on the LED screen there. most un-serviced PC, pack up lint like this. like this, doom happens like this every time not kept clean. all do it. http://www.pcdied.com/Filth101/html/image_9.html

How do i locate the hp probook 4520s BIOS password jumper on the motherboard

4520s. you failed because of one reason, you asked on fixya not HP' why ask here, there are no HP(few) folks here, they are all over at HP, real forum.? bios resets are tricky, the new rules changed with UEFI BIOS and or TPM chips added. back in 2007 the mobo had reset jumper, (mine desktop does) but not my 2008 elitebook laptop, due to the TPM rules. first the link to your books https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ProBook-4520s-Notebook-PC/4145198 those cover most issues, you will have. all by HP direct, page 126 here is not too clear;. the answer is here your PC is fully locked now, there is no way to reset it . without HP direct intervention (fixya can never ever do that) the send you a special binary flash file that only works on YOUR PC (a fact and is by DESIGN) https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/Probook-4545s-Bios-Password-reset/m-p/6350164#M147169 never use a BIOS password, unless you write it down and hide the paper in a book you know, where it is. (got books?) i know books are now (dead technology but)>? if you guess and start flashing BIOS, you will BRICK THIS PC.

Whats the soltution for causes overheating and gets shutdown automatically

Is the laptop vented by a cooling fan? If not it is more than likely caused by lack of air flow around the laptop, check to make sure the fan is running. My laptop recently brpegan overheating due to a failed ventilation fan and it caused a lot of operating system problems. Hope this helps a bit with finding the solution.

Location of rtc battery

The removal of the CMOS battery or (rtc) is pretty straight forward on the Probook Series of laptops. Follow the steps on the video at the link I provide below. Keep in mind that components like the keyboard have ribbons (connections). So don't attempt to move it very far from the laptop itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vtyuVOSoO4

The Device Manager on Windows does not find my webcam. Instead it says Unknown Device. Any one have a fix for that?

You need to manually install the driver for the webcam, go here - HP ProBook 4520s Notebook PC and select your operating system, then expand the Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices section and your webcam driver should be there, download and install it, and then restart and that should resolve your issue

My cd driver isnt working

Most cd/dvd's don;t use a driver they rely on a atapi common driver. Usually when you get problems it means the drive itself is the issue. For now what I would try is simply to go under /control panel hardware manager and delete the drive then reboot. Windows will detect the drive and should re-install the device information and correct the registry.

Why is the usb ports of my HP laptop not working?

You can try doing two things. First you can go into the BIOS (F10) and restore to default settings. Reboot. Assuming you have windows vista or windows 7, from within Windows go into device manager and find the usb hub(s) right click and go into properties/advanced. You will have the option to reset the hub. Do it for all hubs. Reboot. If this still does not work, then your option is to have the motherboard repaired or replaced or just get a usb external hub so you can have more ports.
