Could be one or all of 3 things. The signal is weak from a low battery in remote, the "eye" that catches signal on the set is dirty, or the TV and remote are old enough that they need replaced. I had one that did the same thing but I dealt with it for 2 years. The set then started going top half of screen black for a short time, then just stayed that way. I replaced the set with another I had in storage. First thing to do is try to replace the remote and set up a new one on your TV. If that won't work, take the remote to a store and find a set it WILL work on. I don't know how old your set is, but it may be time to replace it, but does the TV set come on immediately when you push the power on button on the set itself, instead of using the remote? If it will, then it's in the remote circuit and replacing the remote is the first test you can do to find out. Let me know.

You may need to buy a different universal remote control. In my experience, not all of them work with every device. I've been really pleased with the Logitech Harmony remotes.
