is your fax machine connected to the phone line? this usually indicates the connection status, thus, if your phone line is in...you wont have the "offline message".

This is a common issue, but is very easy adjustment. See video instructions:

using Internet explorer, example (192.168.1.1) check the router dhcp service for the ip address of the printer, then you can use internet explorer to access the printer and change the ip address from dynamic to static.

Please allow it to perform self maintenance after a power cycle, which may include calibration, cleaning and aligning of the printing heads. Otherwise, you may be able to find those options within the printer driver or print dialogs in your pc to manually force a maintenance routine. Hope this helps.

I tried all of the above but nothing worked. Brother's support didn't help either. I changed drums and toner cartridges to no avail. My copier is a MFC 8640D, but this should work on most laser printers.I fixed my problem with a very simple solution, that I didn't find posted anywhere else. I removed the toner/drum unit (easy to do) and looked at the top of the bay where it was located. There is a recessed glass strip running the width of the opening that the laser uses to copy the image to the drum. I wiped it with a soft cloth and removed some toner residue, and then used a q-tip to further clean the entire length of the glass strip (it's called the laser prism). This removed the residue and my copies were crisper and the white streaks were gone. Hope this helps someone and saves you some time.

This error means that there is a scanner motor error. Try and remove the error by following these steps: Press MENU *,2,8,6,4. The machine beeps for approximately 1 second and will display "MAINTENANCE" on the screen, indicating that it is placed in the initial stage of the maintenance mode, a mode in which the machine is ready to accept entry from the keys. Now you are inside the simulation, Press 01 to reset the error status. After that press 99 to exit the simulation.

- Pressing the 9 key twice in the initial stage of the maintenance mode makes the machine exit from the maintenance mode, restoring it to the standby state.
- Pressing the Stop button after entering only one digit restores the machine to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

You might try a better/faster internet connection or a faster computer to run it off of. VOIP phones have troubles handling faxes for this very reason.

Yes you indeed should, obtain the drivers and either store them on a USB Key, or a CD/DVD. this way you will always have them. But you do not really have to keep the "Old" ones, as if anything does go wrong, you can simply do a System Restore.
Ensure the USB cable is UNPLUGGED. Then, remove the "Old" drivers. and reboot. Then download the package, store, and then Install. Connect the USB cable when asked. After it all install, I always like to reboot, and you should be good to go...
Get a, ahem, Portable Vuescan, that way you do not need a driver, you do not need to install, and it will all just work.
Using the Scanner under Canon, you must use the Scan manager, to do so.

OK, I think you will find the Drivers may NOT be installed, you need to install BOTH scanner and printer drivers, and ALSO the Scan manager too. If all installed, and OK, then find the Icon, of scanner/printer, and right click, and select, online.

I include some "Other" scanning programs that I find useful. Once Scanner is installed correctly, you can scan into Word, Publisher, Paint, to name a few, you do so by using the INSERT tab.
