OK I need to remove the drum in my brother DCP-7020. I was printing some stuff and a paper gets jammed in the drum. When I take to paper hold out, I can see the paper that jamed the print. I need to know how to take the drum out will a step by step instuctions. Thanks
Open the front of the printer by pulling on both tabs at the finger grips on both sides of the front panel. The front panel will flip down. The drum and toner cartridge comes out as a single unit. It is black plastic within gray plastic and has a handle like grip in the middle. Grasp this grip and pull the unit up and out. It feels kinda funny the first time you do it and you may feel like it will break, but it won't. Pull it up and out in a kinda circular arc. Do not touch the drum. If you ever need to replace the toner cartridge, press on the blue tap and separate the drum from the toner cartridge. You will have to replace the drum after every five toner cartridge replacements so practice doing it now. Note the tabs and slots on the sides before separating the drum and cartridge. Align the cartridge into the drum carriage and slide it in until it clicks. To replace the cartridge assembly into the printer, angle the cartridge at about 45 degrees and rotate in while pushing. It should click into place. If the front door then closes properly, you should have it in properly. Practice a few times and you should be an expert. For paper jams, there are many places to check and they may not all give warnings. First pull out the paper tray and check for and remove misfeeds. Remove the drum cartridge assembly and described here and check for and remove any paper. Open the back cover and check for and remove any paper. Open the automatic feed and check there as well as lifting the cover where the scanning surface is. Look in the rollers for the automatic feed for paper pieces. The last place almost never gives you a warning. Reach into the slot where the paper exits after being printed and grasp the whole top cover. Lift upward and it will open about 4 inches. This is a good place where small pieces of paper or even whole sheets may get stuck. Clean out any dust while you are there.

i have never been able to scan. prints ok even though the brother diagnostics say 'failed'. did previously get cc031. downloaded patch from brother and now have cc027.
i have reimaged my pc so i know there is no 'residual' registry entries or 'bad' dll's. loaded drivers from scratch.
tried using cd that came with the printer and also downloaded drivers from brother. in fact i had worse problems when i used the download wizard from brother so i went back to the cd that came with the printer. i did see wqhl drivers on the brother site and i downloaded them. but i can't get them recognized when i try to install those drivers instead.
confused? i sure am.
scan button on the 7020 just says 'connecting to pc' and hangs.
papersoft module does see wia and tw devices but when i hit the scan button i get a popup that says there is an error. not much help there.
Ok I know how to fix this issue, this involves going into the registry editor, also only available in windows XP, so be careful!
Click START -> RUN and type in REGEDIT
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> BROTHER -> CONTROLCENTER -> (version number) -> (model number) -> DEVICEINFO
Look in the right hand window for ENABLEWIA, if the value is set to 0, set it to 1.
Reboot your computer, should be fixed!

I have a DCP 7020. How do I reset the number after I install a new drum?
Take it out and put it back in - the trick is to LEAVE THE FRONT DOOR OPEN after you put it back in. With the door still OPEN push the "options" button and you will be prompted for "New Drum?" and then push the "Up" button for 'Yes' and "Accepted" will appear on the lcd screen - and then the drum counter will be reset. The directions in the book work great - but you have to be careful make sure the door is still open when you push the "options" button...

I am getting error 'Dust on Drum' even after changing with a new drum and toner. Any information resolving this issue will be appreciated.
"Drum error" is because there is dust or any thing like ink on the drum.
After I filled the toner with a other brand dry ink, I got this message.
I carefully checked the drum, I found there was some ink on the drum. So took off the toner part, washed the drum kit with the tap water. wait it dry. There is a rubber roller inside, it will take time to dry.
after the drum kit dry, I rolled the drum, there still something on the drum, I use a tissue paper cleared it.
put the toner back, insert it back to the printer. It is fixed.

These machines always give the toner life end error message well before the toner cartridge is empty. This has been a common problem with most printers. In the past you would take out the cartridge, shake it and put it back in. The printers would work for another 100-200 copies. Does anyone know how to override this error message that stops the machine from printing?
When the Toner Life End LED flips on, requires you to replace the cartridge,
even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine
detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the
other.
To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put
a piece of masking tape over or jam a little bit of paper into the clear opening/circle on the right side
of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually,
you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is
truly empty.

install my printer, have a message about USB port MALFUNCTION in my printer BROTHER DCP7020 laser
Hello, Jorge.
It would help to know "exactly" what the error message states, such as "The USB Device Not Recognized" or something like that. Here are a couple of things to try in order to narrow down the problem source:
1. Try a different USB connection on the computer. If that one works, the problem is probably that other connection port.
2. If none of the ports work with the printer, try a different USB-powered device, such as a cell phone and charging cable. If it works, the problem lies with the printer/computer connection (more likely the printer).
3. If none of the USB ports work, the problem might be your USB port itself. Go to "Device Manager" (in Control Panel), then look for "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Check to see if any have a disabled symbol. Check under "Properties" that device status is: "This device is working properly." If not, try updating the drivers (under the "Driver" tab).
