Brother MFC 8220 All-In-One Laser Printer Questions & Answers
Paper sticks in top feeder tray.
I'm guessing by top feeder tray, you are referring to the manual feed tray.
If the paper is getting stuck midway into the printer, and you have taken the time to clear all paper jams, torn piece of paper, paper clips or staples that might act as an obstacle to the paper path, then usually the problem is a defective or non-operational optical sensor.
I had this happen to me on a Brother MFC-8840DN recently. I took some compressed air and pointed the air at what I felt was the area of the optical sensor. This helped blow the paper dust or loose toner powder from out of the optical sensor and the printer began working again just fine.
If you're not sure where the optical sensor is, after you have removed the toner cartridge and drum assembly, just spray compressed air over the entire area. You might wish to wear a dust mask or do this outside to prevent inhaling any paper dust or toner.
The small optical sensor usually has a small plastic arm attached to it with a flapper that moves in between a small "U" (The emitter and receiver are mounted in the sides of the U). This arm can get broken or jammed.
If cleaning the optical sensor doesn't work, then probably you will need to replace it. You can call Brother Customer Service at 877-436-2665 and see if they can give you the part number and sell you the part. If you can access the sensor, generally replacing it is pretty easy.

Can not send outgoing faxes on brother mfc-8220.
There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to send a fax. Check your manual for troubleshooting tips. However here are some simple things to try.1. Check to make sure the cord from the outlet in the wall to your all-in-one is plugged into the proper port. There are usually two ports that will accept your phone plugs on the back of machine. One goes to your phone or answering machine and the other one to the line that goes the outlet in the wall. It's easy to plug your cord into the wrong port. Try plugging your phone cord into the other port and see that works.2. You may have a defective phone cord or the wrong type of cord. Most phone cords only have two conductors in the cord and others have four. Try replacing the phone cord with a known good phone cord and see if that helps.

Does the all in one printer work stand alone as a copier?
What type of connection is the printer using to connect to the computer?
I had message displayed on this printer's display
Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage.
Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.
Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now
If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

My Brother MFC8220 Keeps jamming the paper as it
Using a cloth damp with water clean the feed roller. You will see it when you pull out the paper tray. If it starts feeding good it was a feeding prob.. If it keeps doing it look at the leading edge of the jammed paper for any signs of dings or bends. if you find any paper damage look in that area for what is causing the damage.
