Most printers spray ink onto a foam pad on the bottom of the unit to clean the head. With time this pile of ink can become too high for the printer head to slide on it's rails. i have a mfc-255cw all i one printer and it also stopped printing black. i read that when you buy non oem ink it clogs up your printer. my solution for this was to take a bike pump pin, cut the tip off so there is a hole in the end. then my wife held the tip tight into where the black ink enters the printer and i pumped away with the bike pump. we instantly saw black ink start to pour out of the hole so we stopped and tried to print and it worked.
