It isn't easy to figure out how to open the bsttery compartment as there are no clues in the manual or on the outside of the mouse. The cover is the entire top side of the mouse behind the buttons, After many false starts, I found that if I get a thumb nail in the crack behind a button near the center and pull (push) straight back, it will pop off. Either side works.

my adesso z12 was working fine and all of the sudden it started to ask me to reinstall driver. I uninstalled and re-installed the driver and it is still not recognizing the device

Can you try this on notepad or in safe-mode. This is usually caused by some application interfering / interpretting your keyboard strokes.
