Did you find a solution? I unscrewed the screw under the battery compartment lid near the rear end of the remote. The rattle is a broken radio frequency antenna. A replacement for this ancient remote is $89 plus shipping and handling. Supposedly the Bose systems can also be programmed with some universal remotes without rf antennae.

Inside the remote is a ferrite antenna wrapped with a solid copper wire. Over time this large wire solder point cracks. I've had one that rattled. Carefully pry apart the remote and resolder.
