Bose Lifestyle 30 System Questions & Answers
I try to plug apple
You might want to try connecting the Apple TV to your TV using HDMI, then using the optical cable from your TV to your Bose system. In your TV's settings, there should be an Audio Output option. You'll want to turn off the TV speakers. Optical audio can be a little strange compared to traditional analog. If your cord is going bad, it could result in behavior like you described.
Bose Lifestyle 30 6-cd changer magazine manual release?
hi, you can release the magazine by inserting a small flat head screwdriver in the slot and pushing the lever towards the back of the unit, this will release the cd but only if ther is not one stuck in the player as it will remain halfway between the mag and the cdplayer. don't force it to comae out. remember to obviously have the dorr to the player open before you try this.
Missing segments on the display
LCD dispaly is standard,
the brightness is controlled on the display control baord mounted on the board that the dispaly cable plugs into, the gain of an op amp that controls the brigtness of the diplay is loacted on this board , check also the potentiometer located close to the connector and adjust that, but a quick visit to radio shack will get you a couple of cents worth of parts and a few mintes of delicate soldering and a couple of hours of dissasembly , tracing and reaasembly. with a risk of doing further damage.
equally likely to a faulty power op amp or potentiometer is that the dispaly is expiring ( it happens sometimes to these types of plasma displays.....)
so if you are determined not to get a cheap relapcement cd 20 and are determined to open the beast. get a cheap broken cd20 unit and take the dispaly out of that one and replace it with your display ( by display i specifically mean the intergarted circuit tht the plasma screen is mounted to, and subsequentially screwed into the inside face of the cd 20 unit behind that bit of smoked glass,
which of course you are going to open and clean before you put it all back together gain.
have fun ;-)

Mine is a 20 but I think the larger woofer/bass unit is essentially the same. Yes, there is a stupid little AC fuse in the woofer unit which often blows when there is a power surge. It is not easy to get to as you have to take off the cover etc on the rear of the unit. A couple of screws, and the knobs pull off. Essentially then you gather your courage and literally smack hard the top of the cover downwards to get it off! This exposes the pc board on which the fuse is mounted. Odd rating - mine is 1.6 amps. Hope this helps?Mike

You probably blew up several components in the power
supply circuit, but yes it can be fixed.
Just take it down to your local TV repair shop.
Oh wait, those don't exist anymore.

How do you open the base unit to remove the cd changer magazine
The top cover is held on with 4 clips (similar to those on a car door card) so needs to be gently prised off, this will expose screws etc to enable the bottom cover to be removed.
Ive done this with my system but it does not really help solve the problem, I still can't get to the jammed disc!!
Bose 20 display failed
Older Bose Lifestyle systems are prone to electrolytic capacitor failures. Replace all electrolytic capacitors on the main control board with identical uF value, equal or greater voltage rating, equal or greater temp rating. There are about a dozen on the board with at 2-3 different values. Disassembly and reassembly is straight forward. Those with capable skills in mechanical and electrical areas should find the project will take about 1-2 hours. I recommend grounding the board when working on it. Find a spot on the board where the ground is marked, and attach a jumper to a ground point. Take caution during the disassembly -- take photos, lots of plastic parts, etc. The eCaps are polarized, so be sure to check polarity as you unsolder, and install new eCaps with same polarity (+ & - ) as the old.
Once caps are replaced the voltage levels to correctly operate the display will be back to factory settings, and the display should show brightly. Good Luck!
Hdmi conflictng with optical
Use the component. If your tv is running correctly it should not lose quality through the component system. HDMI is simply a High Def Multiple Interface, meaning that it combines the Visual with the Audio signal in the same cable. Refer to your documentation on your sattelite box to see if there is a solution. But remember that the HDMI may be carrying what the actual broadcast sound is as not many if any channels are transmitted in 5.1 dts.
