On the rear where the power adapter plugs in, it should show in input voltage and polarity. Check the power supply output voltage with a volt meter. Generally, it is the sum total of all the batteries, so it if takes 4xAA @1.5 volt batteries the voltage would be 6 volts DC. It sounds like it is faulty.

It's lowest operating frequency should be 100 kHz, unless it has been altered. What you would hear below 100 kHz is a mystery.

IC 103 CX7961 stopt to oscillate after ~30s ...
so the plls ref was out
I changed it without results
In fact the plastic trimmer C138 (4-20pf) was bad???( insulation?)
Since changing (10 years ago) : no problem

The fuse is sealed inside the adapter. It cannot be replaced.

Try a cleaner/lubricant contact spray. Available @ Radio Shack. Pull out and spray into it, re attach knob and turn in off a number of times. Turn all the way. If problem persist your radio may have a loose wire or solder.

I have talked to the gentleman who designed this radio and he said that in order to correct this problem two pins on the inside of the front panel must be shorted while 6.2 volts dc is fed to the battery terminals. The whole radio must be disassembled to reach these pins, I have not been able to find a service manual to help me locate said pins. If anyone out there can find out where to get a service manual please contact [email protected]

It depends on your location. Set reception mode to AM waves. Dial in the frequency of the station or enter it using the keypad. To tune in on a station, rotate the radio.

It looks like you have a real scientific project. It sounds fascinating and it seems to go well beyond the mere enjoyment of a simple Short Wave Radio. My suggestion: Put your hypotheses/questions to the test and you will form an informed opinion.

If transistor T612 (BD533L) gets hotter than transistor T613(BD534L) even after the volume set to low/mid then this is an indication that it is already faulty even you've test it good using the multimeter. That is why the sound cut in and out. I would advice you to replace this part and its filter electrolytic capacitor C670 and C671 (220uf/25V).

DOES IT HAVE AN "AUX" OR "TAPE" INPUT? Switch it off; If something is plugged in the jack - unplug it. That all will switch of the radio output.

This is valid for the Satellit 750 by Eton (current owner of Grundig)
When you use it the first time you go through a system code setting to fix the memory page configuration, the AM gap between stations, the type of batteries and FM frequency range.
If it is used in North Ameraica, you are told not to go through procedure but do it any way.
SYSTEM Code setting
Turn Radio off and press a quick short press on the ENTER Button. -- appears on the upper right corner of the display
1. The first code could be 00, 20,25 or 50, meaning the memory is divided into 10, 20, 25, or 50 pages.
2. The second code fixes the AM frequency gap between stations. Enter 09 for 9kHz or 10 for 10 kHz (in North America)
The 3rd code selects the type of batteries used 29 for D size batteries (1.5V each) or 28 for rechargeable batteries (1.2 V each)

The 4th code concerns the FM frequency range: 76 for a range 76-108 MHz (for Japan) or 87 for a range 87-108 MHz
