Look at the front case and locate reset hole. Insert cocktale stick or similar and listen for slight click. Insert new batteries, ensuring correct polarity and that there has been no leakage from old batteries on terminals. If leakage ie green/ uneven appearance, try to scrape clean with suitable implement when disconnected from mains only.

Note that the opening price is only $25. Suggest you get a "new" used radio as a cost effective option. Alternative: buy (now relatively inexpensive) NiMH rechargeable batteries and run your P2000 on them.

The batteries you need are just regular AA batteries (also known as 'double A batteries'). In this product you need 3 of them. (AA = 1.5v -> 4.5V in this product) These can be bought in a local supermarket or electronics shop.

HI Melvin. It is hard to diagnose issues like that over the net. But my first suspicion would be the bandswitch, if so equipped. Contacts can get dirty. I just had a look at your radio's photo, and it looks to be the age of a set that would have a bandswitch.

If you are experienced at romoving the rear of the cabinet, you may be able to see the band switch. It is full of contacts. You can use a contact cleaner, (make SURE it is safe to use on plastics) spray a little on the wafer switch, the work it back and forth.

This is the most common reason a set will not pick up on some bands. Pushbutton operated radios is the next common cause of no reception on certain bands. I strongly doubt it would be from an open coil or other major issue.

The miniplug might have become unscrewed, bent, or the cable inside is not making a good contact. In any case, it is not making a solid contact when inserted. Just to make sure that the plug receptacle is not damaged ( it almost never happens), by testing the unit with another headset. Replacement of the miniplug is a rather simple procedure, if you can solder. These plugs are available at most hardware/ electronic stores. If you are not proficient with these repairs, just take the headset to any electronics repair shop, and they will do it while you wait. This repair should not take more than 15 minutes. There are just 3 cables to connect, 1) the left channel + wire 2) the right channel + wire, and 3) the ground / negative cable, which is common to both channels.

To set tuner presets:

1. Manually tune desired frequency.
2. Press MEMO button, Display will flash.
3. Manually enter memory position, 1-5.
4. Press MEMO button again.

You ran out of batteries, or if using AC, the adapter is wrong.

I think this unit uses 'UM-1' batteries. They are also known as 'D Cell', 'R20' or 'LR20' batteries. Most good electrical, hardware and some of the larger 'supermarket' stores will have these batteries available. A good quality brand like Duracell or Varta should do the job. There is also two separate smaller 'button' batteries in the unit used to power the clock.
