Grundig Classic 960 Shelf System Questions & Answers
Grundig Classic 960 Mfg 2000, Powers On , But Only Faint Hum Can Be Heard. What Should I Start With First ?
Don't continue powering it up. The hum is the transformer that powers the circuits. There is a failed electronic component which is causing the audio to be absent. The radio this was copied from was a tube radio and none of the original components are the same in this solid state copy. The problem is most likely in the audio amplifier section of the circuit board, but being most likely surface mounted components like all modern manufactured radios finding and isolating the fault will cost you more than buying a replacement.
Grundig Classic 960 Radio
I recently had the same issue as Mando above -- what I found is that Q1 was temperature sensitive. Hit it with some cold spray and on came the am/fm -- Replaced it with a 2n2222 and all is well -- May not be the problem with all sets, but suspect that the Lot of Chinese transistors may have had a problem as I have heard this
before. Good luck --
On/off switch doesn't turn on or off. It just
Posted earlier that it was volumne and tone control on two stacked pots with a on off contact at the rear. I measured and posted the value of the two stacked potienmometers correctly. But I mislabled the use of them. Correction: the tone control is a different pot located nearby.
I have the radio for about ten years. It is a

The push buttons give off
A can of contact cleaner will usually fix the static problem unplug the unit, and use the spray tube nozzle from the back side to reach the push buttons, you will have to push them in and out to clean the contacts on each slide switch. while you are at it clean the volumne and tone pot, the same way. a good brand of contact cleaner will not affect anything in the radio but will remove any dirt from the contacts. This is the usual cause of a loud static noise in most radios. A poor contact.
As far as the push buttons not staying in, I notice the red wires from the transformer are lead around the front of the radio, perhaps one has lifted enough to block the buttons from latching. Or the latch on the buttons is worn or broken away.
Power/volume rotary swtch
I was able to change the volume with a small screwdriver. Not easily though, once you get it to the correct volume turn if off by unplugging.
Receiver comes on for just a few minutes then goes
Hi,
There could be many reasons for the same. First, Disconnect the unit for few minutes, say 20 minutes and then plug it back. If the problem persists, this would confirm a hardware failure.
It could be anywhere from a blown circuitry to bad board in it. It needs to be opened and repaired.
Note - On most occasions it is faulty power supply board. You need to open and check for any blown IC's.
It would be tough to find someone who still repairs this receiver. This company is already out of Business.

Replacement battery for grundig satellite 3400 ? Where is it possible to buy?
I think this unit uses 'UM-1' batteries. They are also known as 'D Cell', 'R20' or 'LR20' batteries. Most good electrical, hardware and some of the larger 'supermarket' stores will have these batteries available. A good quality brand like Duracell or Varta should do the job. There is also two separate smaller 'button' batteries in the unit used to power the clock.
