Is this a networked printer? You may need to reload the print driver into your computers. Most printers are generic enough that computers will recognize them and automatically install the drivers. Sometimes you need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers you need.

The problem your having is a spacer motor. It's located under the carriage that holds the ribbon/printhead. The part number is 56513701. Available at Seattle Platen - Dale 1800-221-2388.

Well it sounds like the old inverter had a problem with regulation and it has inturn blown the power supplies in both printers. Without buying new PSU's there is nothing you can do. The Switch-mode power supplies in most printers do not like unstable input and that is what your inverter gave them.

Unplug the network cable and restart the printer. If it sits there doing nothing then the PC's job that you sent to it is the problem. If however the printer although unplugged from network starts printing again then yes the printer memory is messed up and you will need a new main pcb as you cant clear its memory as its integral with the board.

Solved this problem by going into the bios and changing the port from ECP to EPP, and then uninstalling the ECP port in device manager and replacing it with a standard parallel port configuration, no problems since doing that.

The only thing that coould cause it to malfunction like this is a defective main board. Replacing the machine would be recommended as the board is rather expensive.

need more info. is it hooked up usb or parallel? Are you printing from windows or like an AS400 or OS X. What error is the alarm light blinking or just stays on?.

Remove the plastic shield on the ribbon, you may get a bit of ribbon rub, but it's normally not noticeable.

Its more likely that the problem is cheap ribbons or old ribbons as they dry out with age.

If not using track feed paper this printer should have a setting for paper height. If its set too high the
rollers wont grab the paper. Also look for any paper that might be jammed or caught up in any of
the roller mechanics.

Sounds like the media detect sensor is jammed or broken. Remove the platen and check underneath to make sure a label has become stuck over the sensor which would trick the printer into thinking it always has media.

Check your printer driver and the communication cable. These are the two most common causes of this issue.
