Sustainers are the two boards mounted vertically on both sides of your TV. Its function is to power up your screen. The x and y sustainer boards run around $150.00 apiece so you might want to weigh your options and look at newer sets. i know 4 years does not seem long enough to own the set before it craps out, but you have been fortunate with this make and model. Most don't last that long.

I had the same issue happen to my vizio lcd just this weekend. Everyone is telling me is a bulb or backlight or something. Your plasma set basically had the gas in it escape. Its pretty much worthless at this point. I would definitly take it up with the repair company and demand a replacement tv.

when you hook up the cable, what type of connection do you use? if you're using HDMI then try some other connection. Cable box seem to have HDMI connection problem. Also make sure that what ever the input you hook the device to, you have that input selected.

Yes, everything is fixable but at a price. In my opinion, it is probably not worth it as the screen is the most expensive item inside your TV. Not only that but it is also the most labor intensive part to install.
