I love my PowerShot sx 130. It has been great for last 3 years. The batteries went completely dead and now that I have charged them and reinserted them, everything is hard to turn. The zoom and top

If your mode control dial is hard to rotate, there is chance that a sticky liquid may have sprayed or spilled, Take a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner and rub around the outer edge, letting small amounts to slide under the dial. Begin turning the knob right away to work it in and loosen the stick. Make sure very little gets transferred from the q-tip, you don't want to short our the camera. It would be wise to do this with out the batteries loaded

Battery cover door replace

Canon will send you a new one for free or minimal cost. There is a pin that acts as a hinge. push it out from the side with a paperclip or very small screwdiver or punch. reinstall the new door in reverse careful of the spring. Some cameras, there's a screw holding the door on, in this case the new door will include the hinge.

Flashing warning on PowerShot SX110

You receive a flash warning because the image does not have enough light for the aperture and shutter speed combination either you have set or the camera has set. There are several solutions. I can't seem to find whether that camera has a manual exposure mode or only auto modes. If only auto modes, refer to number 1 and the last two bullets. Solutions. 1. Turn on your flash. If you do not want to use your flash.... 2. If you have the ability to adjust your exposure settings
  • Open your aperture to it's widest ability. That would be a small number like 2.8 or 3.5
  • Reduce your shutter speed to about .125 Anything slower than that may introduce blur into the image depending on how steady your hands are.
  • Increase your ISO upwards toward 1600. Be cautious though. The higher the ISO, the more grain or noise is introduced into the image.
  • Do not use optical zoom (16x). Use only digital zoom (4x). You lose too much light at super zoom levels and the pic gets too shaky anyway.

Flash not working

I had a similar problem my camera kept telling me to raise the flash even when it was raised. I opened the back of the camera taking out the little screws on the back only. To the right right below the flas is a switch that registers when the flash is raised. Something had broken off in mine because nothing would push the switch. I wedged it down with a foam nose pad for glasses (came in the kit i bought for the screwdriver). Now flash registers all the time so I have to manually change the setting if I don not want flash but it is working now.

My memory card won't go down and lock into place. I've tried several different cards. None of them will lock into place

Be carefull, never use force. Check if you don't try to put in the card the wrong way around. Then check if nothing is damaged inside the memory slot. You need a bright light and perhaps a magnifying glass, because everything is very small. Compare the memory slot with a memory slot from another camera. Watch how the little knobs on the side look. I don't mean the contacts. When the contacts are bent, there is a possibility someone once pressed a memory card in the wrong way around and damaged the contacts and knob to secure the card.

Why won't my camera connect to computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Want to disable auto flash

Hi Louise- Nice camera! With the camera ON, click the function set wheel on the back of the camera on the right side next to the 'lightning bolt'. If you think of the wheel as a clock, touch the function set wheel at '3:00' with your nail. This will show three choices: flash automatic, flash on, or flash off. Choose 'flash on' and the camera will flash all the time. Hope this helps!
