I have a pioneer Pro 200 and have had it for a dozen years. I have an HD in my office and the picture is so good and bright on the Pioneer I just cannot bring myself to get rid of it. The TV blinks

Im going to guess that if you try turning it on, sometimes you hear a "click" and nothing then the problem persists over and over until it finally turns on? If so, it's a problem with the power that "jumpstarts" the screen. Worn out capacitors on older models don't hold the necessary charge it takes to "start" the inverter that powers the screen. Once those start to go, it's usually bye bye for the tv. That is IF this is your problem. Let me know. Sometimes it makes hissing or cracking noises along with it. hope this helps!

Is this Pioneer Elite Pro 118 worth fixing?

You most likely have cold solder connections on the convergence IC's or on the B+ sources for the convergence. The longer you wait to have this simple repair done, the worse this will get and cost you double or maybe even triple of what it will cost now. Good Luck

Mine stays in standby mode.

Hi Brian,

Bad solder joints will affect the performance of the power supply and may cause a subsequent shutdown but that's is only one of the factors. I've suspected that you have a leaky capacitor in that section or a faulty bulb(lamp). Find first the leaky electrolytic capacitor, sometimes it has a bulged at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester. It will drop the voltage and will dis-able the unit. Then checked all the output voltages from the power supply. After you confirmed that all voltages are in good regulation, you need to replace the bulb.
If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to isolate the problem.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Tv looks 3D kinda dark

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

A very loud static pop noise

i would suspect that you may have a defective coupling capacitor in your preamp or amp, try using another source input or and a different amplifier to help localize the fault, I do not suspect the cable as being the fault, and is more likely and amplifier problem

I am having the same discoloration curve on the

Your symptoms sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

This is a common failure for this particular television. You should have a red blinking power light on the front of your set that will blink 9 times and this is your solution to your problem.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110, and they are located on the signal board (on the left as you look into the back of the set).

Most of the time I have performed this repair for around $250.00-$300, but it may vary according to where you live. So repair is most likely the best way to go.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

As for the labor, I would make sure that the service center that performs the work has some sort of guarantee on the work that they perform. The better service centers will always have some sort of guarantee, at least 30-90 days.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Hello\ screen pin cushioning

This is the most common failure on projection TV's regardless of the brand. It is caused by a failure of the convergence circuit. In particular, there are two STK IC chips, sometimes three depending on the model, and these are power amplifiers that drive the convergence yokes. They typically last 5-6 years and then they fail. Sometimes the failed IC will also burn out one or more of the low-ohm feedback resistors near the heat sink. If this is the case and you don't find/replace the burnt resistors, the picture will still not be converged, and within a short time of turning on the set, the new STK pack(s) can be damaged.

Dark screen on a pioneer SD-P403

By the desciption of your symtom, I think that you may have lost the blue CRT. You may want to call a local repair servicer to have the set diagnosed. It could be as simple as the video driver on the CRT board, or it could the the CRT itself.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
