If you got latest windows update, that could mean only what you have already described: Your one time package or any office software 2000 wont work. I suggest you updating your office package on working versions for W 7, since thats only solution for you.

Hello there, if you go to the Microsoft page and search for "Word viewer" it allows you to open any format Microsoft word document and view or print the file, but does not allow any changes to be made, hope that helps :)
