Technics SL-MC400 110-Disc CD Changer Questions & Answers
Tech SL-MC410. Continously displays "Checking Disc"
When the unit is saying "Checking discs" and neither goes further nor turns off (just says "Off" but doesn't), the reason is still the main belt (accessible from the top as soon as you lift the cover) that is too loose. When the belt is way too loose, the unit doesn't move at all, if the belt is little too loose, the player-unit will move a bit, but there is not enough torque on the gears to reach the end position (where the player unit is secured against movements).

Won't play cds
I have the same problem. When you turn it, after a while it justs displays "ERROR". I opened the player and I think the player is stuck on the left hand of the interior. When I lift the lever on the front of the player it starts moving, but on returning to the same place it gets stuck again. I checked to see if any items were broken but that does not seem to be the problem. I suspect that it is caused by worn out items. Any suggestions, does Technics still support this player?

Scans across discs three times
try another disk.
If it still does this, then try GENTLY cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
If that doesn't work, then the laser may be dying.
You'd have to take it to a qualified service depot to be sure.
What can you do on your own if you are skilled enough you ask?
You might be able to get a little more life out of it by tweaking the bias voltage up a smidge, but at that point, it's replace the laser or replace the unit because the laser WILL die soon.
I had a friend with a similar unit, and I used to go once a week to adjust it til the laser just died completely.
I didn't mind, because I really liked her and it was a good excuse to see her regularly...at least for a while! LOL.

Right channel is distorted and slightly lower in
I'd suspect a crappy cable connection.
Swap the left and right to see if it follows. Twist the cable as you re-insert it at each end so it wipes any light oxides away.
Your receiver could be the source of the problem, too. Turn it OFF and manually operate all of it's controls and switches throughout their ranges, especially those that are rarely used, like Tape Monitor or Mute. Built up internal resistance might be the problem.
Try connecting the CD player to another input (not PHONO).

When i turn on my technics cd player model number
I've just bought a used changer, that shows the same error. The instuction says " unplug the changer from its outlet, replug it in an turn the changer ON again"
That doesn't help in my case.
Have you found a solution?

Changer turns on ok,goes thru
Hi! This error may be fixed by running a cd lens cleaner. This error may result to dirty lens cleaner causing the disc not to be read. Hope this helps and have a good one!
