How should I connect my Technics SA-AX730 receiver to my Panasonic TC-40A420U that uses HDMI?

I assume the Panasonic is a TV. I have never heard of green audio outputs. Audio outputs should be red and white (for RCA plugs). There are adapters available that convert the yellow, red and white component outputs to HDMI. You can get them at GameStop (I bought one recently to connect a game system for my daughter). If you have a TV converter box from your cable or satellite provider you might be able to connect the audio out on the cable box to your Technics receiver and run a HDMI to the TV (be sure to turn off the TV's internal speakers through the TV's menu) for video.

What about heat and shorted speakers?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

Technics SA-AX730 Receiver PLAYS FINE AT A VERY LOW VOLUME.

Your speakers are way tp powerful you should only use speakers just over what the amp is rated at the most and check your impedance is not lower then 6 ohms and turn the bass to half way i am using 60 watt bookcase psb speakers and they work just fine and they pound no problem

See the link below for an explanation of protect mode. Specific to your model, there are 3 output amp pacs, any of which can cause this. Further investigation inside the unit is required to determine which one or more is defective. On rare occassions, I have seen bad voltage regulators cause this as well. Again inernal investigation will be required.

Hope this helps a bit,

Dan

Technics sa-ax730 won't play a&b speakers at same time.

This is similar to protect mode in that the amp has detected a short in the output and has shutdown to prevent damage. Without seeing the unit, I'm a bit hesatant to suggest repair tips. At this point, I would suggest you get a detailed estimate from a local shop. We should be able to guide you through the actual repair once the results are posted here.

Video Problem

You most likely have either bad connections from the jacks to the main PC board or the video switching chip has an internal problem. Try resoldering all of the input jacks first and update this with your results.
