A message appearing"you may be
Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications for Windows XP notifies you if a copy of Windows XP is not genuine. The notification messages only appear on computers that have failed the WGA validation process and that are running a copy of Windows XP that is not genuine. If you are running a validated, genuine copy of Windows XP, you will not receive notification messages.
Removing WGA Via The Command Line
Restart your PC and boot into Safe Mode, usually by pressing F8 whilst your computer boots. Once your PC has booted open a command prompt by clicking Start then Run and typing cmd into the box before clicking OK.
Change directory to your System32 folder with the following command:
cd \windows\system32
Next you're going to need to copy the following lines to the clipboard, in order to paste them into the command prompt quickly. This is necessary to kill the WgaTray.exe process and delete the file before Windows has a chance to launch it again:
taskkill -IM wgatray.exe
del wgatray.exe
del wgalogon.old
If all the commands executed correctly you should have killed and deleted WgaTray.exe as well as WgaLogon.dll. You might also want to have a look for any WGA-related files (WgaTray.exe, WgaLogon.dll, WgaSetup.exe etc...) in \Windows\System32\dllcache and delete them, just in case.
Restart your PC to see if the changes have taken effect, if the WGA notifications are still there then you'll want to continue reading this next bit, otherwise you're done.

I am using Windows 7
I believe that the copy you are using is a trial copy. You can try to run a program to get rid of that if you don't feel like paying for a new copy right now. Unless you bought it from a company, then they can get in serious trouble for selling counter fit versions of windows. The name of the program is RWAT or Remove wat. Let me know if you need more information. Remember to thank me if this helped.

Problem with XP home edition, ecvhost.exe missing
go into safe mode , I think you hit either F5 or F8 during start up. You want safe mode with networking perhaps. From safe mode attempt a recovery to an earlier date when your machine was working.
GOOD LUCK

Cant update m/s security essential
Step1
Ensure that the date and time are set correctly on your PC
Open Microsoft Security Essentials.
If the error message that you received contains the code 0x80072f8f, the problem is most likely caused by an incorrect date or time setting on your PC.
To reset your PC's date or time setting, follow the steps in Fix broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks.
Step 2
There are other things that you can do however the most easy way is to install updates manually
Manually install the virus and spyware definition updates
If you're running a 32-bit Windows operating system, download the latest updates manually at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87342
If you're running a 64-bit Windows operating system, download the latest updates manually at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/LinkID=87341.
Click Run. The latest updates are manually installed on your PC.

Windows 7 revert back to Win XP
I think that what's important is license key of your Win XP, the installer for Win XP can be downloaded from any download site now a days. If you have a friend or know someone who has the Win XP installer, you can barrow it from them or have it copied on another disc. Then use the license key that you have from your previous operating system (Win XP).
You must also make sure that the installer that you will be using is the same version that you used to have before installing Win 7. I hope this one helped in a way.
