There may be leftover processes running that you need to kill in the task manager. If you have registry issues, then install a new copy, which will reset the registry hiccups, then try uninstalling that. that is happening because you have both installed at the same time 2010 and 2013, since 2013 is newer it takes over the file extension, upon removal of 2013 windows will no longer know how to open the files even so you still have 2010 starter installed, just go to control panel - uninstall a program - and look for office 2010 starter in the list of programs that will show up, click on it and there will be a option to remove or reinstall/repair. click on it, office will give you the option to uninstall or repair office, choose repair and wait when the installer is done you should be able to open your documents again.
