Basically its pirating people using copies of software and serial numbers they have not paid for

Try checking the driver.Right Click on "My Computer" > Manage > Device Manager ..Look for the sound card driver and see if it has an X or a ? mark on it. If it has an X, then you need to reinstall the driver or if it has ? you need to do the same. You can actually search online for the latest driver of your computer.

Proxies are really not very good at all and they get blocked all the time as you probably know. This is only possible with RW CD's because -R and +R CD's comes already with a unmodifiable formatted squema.Anyway you'd need some "burning" software for this. You can find several free ones with very good performance figures in the net.

Re-seat the sound card, or test with a different card if you can. Double check device manger with view hidden devices in safe mode.

What is the program you tried to uninstall? Maybe it uninstalled some vital windows comonents? If this is the case, then you might need to use the original Windows install CD to do a repair to your machine. If you don't know what you're doing with this, you can do more harm than good. What ever the case you might want to backup or save to CD any important data before you commence these repairs.
