Black and white only when playing a DVD or VHS
What type of connections are you using?
If you are using coax cable check to make sure that the TV is on the proper channel that the DVD/VCR is switched to i.e. 3 or 4.
If you are using Componant video (red, green, blue, and red, white) verify that the green is plugged in all the way on both the TV and DVD/VCR and try connecting it to a different Componant input on the TV.
Note: the TV may be YCbCr, and DVD/VCR YPbPr or vice versa these two types usually are not compatible with each other. YCbCr is a digital signal and YPbPr is an analog signal.
If you are using A/V video cables or (yellow, red, white) check the DVD/VCR video setting to see if it is in progressive scan mode, as this can cause a problem with some TV sets that are not compatible.

How do i hook up my old admiral vcr to my new rca
Do both have Scart sockets? If they do you can get a scart lead. All you have to do is set the VCR to the AUX setting that the scart is on and press record!
You won't be able to watch another channel though whilst recording. If you are using the scart socket for say DVD (on the TV) you can get one of these:

How to connect flat screen t.v to vcr
Easiest way is to connect the TV & VCR using a Scart connector. The VCR should automatically switch over when play is selected. To go over to the VCR channel then select AV1 on the TV input select. ( This may be named different depending what make of TV you have eg. AUX 1)

Vcr
Are you playing the movie on the DVD or the VCR?
Why is the DVD plugged into the outputs instead of the VCD inputs?

Vcr to tv connection
There are probably a couple of different ways to hook things up. One is you hook the VCR "in between" the indoor antenna & the set. Hook antenna to VCR RF/Ant In, then VCR RF/Ant out to the Antenna input on TV. Your VCR will then be able to record one channel, while you watch another on TV. To play back the VCR, or do any VCR setup, TV channel must be set to either channel 3 or 4.
The other way is to use the Video & audio input/outputs on the VCR & TV. You will need the appropriate cable(s). Match the VCR video/audio outs with the set of inputs on TV. Video and audio out on the TV go back to the video/audio inputs on VCR. In order to view VCR playback, menu setup, you will need to select that input (line, aux, video 1 etc.) on the TV. This hookup probably won't allow the recording of a second channel while watching one.
As regards the hft channels, I assume you live in an area where such is being broadcast. The TV can probably be put into a programming mode where it will scan for all available channels, and put them into memory, or they can be programmed manually.

VCR won't tape and get no playback
First check how good / bad are your recordings.
Take a current / recent recording done after this problem cropped up, and play it back on another VCR - maybe a friend's.
If the recording plays back badly- showing the symptoms you described, then the problem is still dirty or worn out Video Heads.
If the Recording plays back perfectly on the friend's machine, but plays back badly on your machine, I still suggest that you try cleaning the Heads one more time, and if the problem is not resolved, it is time to trash the VCR.
One last question, you say that you have reset the channels. Are the reception channels' images clear?
I may be able to give some more suggestions, based on this response.

My television was dropped.
hi,
how many years, your tv is working .
if over 10-15 years you must try to replace with new one.
if not :
the gun of screen lamp may be damaged or one of diod is damaged or one of the larg capacitor
is leeked .
anyway for solving the matter a technecian must visit your tv.
good luck

I HAVE A "GOLDSTAR VCR"
I should have a look at the Goldstar website. It might come under LG by the way. Makers often put free PDF's of user manuals there.
