Flash not discharging

its seems to me that the alignment of your flash setting in its cubicle has been disturbed, possibly by the camera being pressed in your bag. if you cant get it to operate normally, I suggest that you get it done professionally by Pentax.
The reason I am saying this, is cause firstly Pentax is good and branded camera. The settings and all teh mechanism's of this camera are very delicate and you will only damage something within it by forcing your flash out everytime you want to use it.

Compatible Flash Units

pentax istDL does not support TTL flash metering unlike most of the other pentax DSLRs. You need a flash that is P-TTL. How annoying hey? I was pretty bummed, but it made me learn to shoot fully manual...

i think that there is only one P-TTL flash on the market at present. (AF540 or something)

good luck...

Bad USB conection?

If your camera's driver is not installed, it will not work.
Make sure you go to the manufactures site, and download the correct driver there.
However, if your driver IS installed, then yes, your USB cord might have gotten bad.

Thank you.

Bad USB conection?

it's not likely the cable went bad.  Do you have more than one USB port you can try? do you have other USB devices to test the port? did you reboot?

DARK POTRAITS

what do you mean dark? if they are underexposed... extend you exposure time.

There is a small round button near the shutter release... hold that down, and rotate that thumb wheel thingy. You can over or underexpose your camera's auto metering by 2 stops in 1/2 stop increments...

After that, you should learn how to take control of the camera and shoot in manual mode. It give you the ultime power

Flash on ist DL

Looks like its true... Another major disadvantage. Removing TTL means removing one more hardware piece - TTL sensor. Pentax removed almost every nice feature, which needs some aditional or more expensive hardware: no TTL flash, less AF points, pentamirror... Seems like I bought Ds right in time.

Can *ist DL do High-Speed/Wireless Flash?

According to the manual (page 153), the DL DOES support P-TTL flash, with the built-in or external flash, but only supports high-speed flash with an external flash. What I'm wondering is, what is high-speed sync flash useful for? The only thing I can think of is fill-flash outdoors.

SD card for *ist DL

Interesting... I've heard that (for the DS at least) the camera isn't capable of using more than about 60X, but of course your downloads can be faster if you use a reader. At 2gb, this might give you some benefit, but a full transfer of 1gb on a garden variety sandisk only takes a few minutes.

*ist DL/DS start up time?

It's about the time it takes to lift the camera to the eye. I have no figure to give you. A tip though: Levae the camera on. After a few minutes it turn itself to a wait status (the delay can be set in the menu). Then you save power. When the next pcture opportunity is seen just lift the camera to the eye, halfpress the shutter button and you are on the go again. I haven't seen a single complaint here about the startup time amd would say it is a non issue.

Pentax Optio A10 camera turns on, the lens extends, the whistle sounds, and the screen displays battery level, & indicators. The problem is the screen itself is dark as if there is a lens cover on.

Normal people can't fix electronic cameras, you need to be an electronics engineer and an optical engineer. Take to a Camera Service Centre for evaluation and repair.

Why isn't my K100D Flash not working?

Hi, please ensure that you've not used the camera for more than the advised amount of time by the manufacturer. Also, you can attempt to use the same brand/type of batteries as was including with your camera when you got it. Some manufacturers put internal fimware/software restrictions on their devices. For printers, this would be done for cartridges and in the case of your camera, it would be for batteries. Lastly, I would check that your sd card isn't full before calling Pentax to refer you to a repair shop. Thank you.

Pentax Espio 60S "E2" error

Hi for anyone reading this! My 60s was just flashing with this but I fixed it. Took the batteries out, swapped them and that didn't work. Tried to put the old ones back in a few minutes later and then it was fine! Just fiddle around with it. Hope this helps.
