Firmware Update

save the firmware file on your sd card, then you have to find the menu in your camera, to load it in camera memory, make sure your battery is fully charged or it will not work.

ERROR A90

from internet:

An A90 error means that there is a electrical fault on the main printed circuit board, and can only be repaired by sending the camera in for repair through your Pentax dealer.
I hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction.

my sugesstion is after reading this go to your pentax supplier and ask them for a investigation repair (the don't repair yet but investigate what is defect and how much the repair costs would be (normaly is that you pay a amount of money and mostly it is deducted from the repair bill if you decide to let it be fixt. (ask them if they would act so , otherwhise sue them for a not good product)

Pentax Optio S - lens cover rings popped off

Hi,
I'd be most happy to share with you how I solved my problem with the Pentax Optio S. It took a bit of clever 'problem-solving' thought and inspection. After suddying the design of each piece and the working components of the exposed lens area, I was able to identify which sections worked together appropriately.
And, I think it appropriate at this time that I ask you to purchase one of my plans in order to receive the full benefit of what I learned from my skillful thinking and examination, and thereby successfully repaired my camera.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Normally there are two reasons for the given problem. 1). Bad or defective CCD. and/or 2). shutter not working. in the first case the only solution is the replacement of the CCD. and in the later case sticking of shutter blade, non functioning of shutter blade will cause the problem. This can be rectified by sending it to some repairer.

Hey slerm,
I would try cleaning the battery terminals inside the camera with some alcohol and cotton swabs before I went out and invested money into a new battery. The manufacturer suggests you make sure the battery is inserted correctly with the arrow pointed towards the back of the camera. If neither one of these options work for you by all means try a new battery.

Sincerely,
Allan

try using another memory card. I would take the memory card back to the shop and ask for another one. I had the same problem. it was the card, not the camera.

Problems with the LCD monitor

You've probably got something as simple as a ribbon cable loose in the camera. Beware though, dismantling is a serious task unless you have experience. Amazingly the CCD is often connected in such a simple, analog-esqe, way that disconnecting it doesn't cause an error, just a black screen.

Where do I get the file:fwdc110p.bin ?

http://www.badongo.com/file/707791
You can download the file from the above site - I think this might be the exact reference. Then go to the most recent entry on this site for the secret menu process http://forums.steves-digicams.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=82905&forum_id=24&highlight=A90

Rember to place it on your card at the same level as the DCIM file, not inside it like I did at first. It came zipped so you will need to use Winzip. I will now try and polish this a bit on that site while it is still fresh in my mind.

Camera powers off automatically once turned on - lens stuck in out position

Hi trldg.

My S4, which admittedly is 4-5 years old and looks it, has given me intermittent problems for 2 years or so with the lens sticking out. I have always been able to fix it by power cycling.

However, recently it seemed there was nothing I could do andI was getting ready to junk it and buy another one. Then I searched online and I was able to fix it. I knew nothing about MENU+ON or MENU+FLASH+ON sequences (are there others you know about)?

Anyways, I got the hint from a post which suggested this sometimes happens when the battery is swapped while the power is on. I was fiddling with a bunch of things when I think what fixed it was this sequence:

1. remove battery
2. hold down MENU (or possibly MENU+FLASH; I was trying both)
3. insert battery

Now, my fault was such that the power always seemed to be on when the battery way in. If this isn't the case with yours, then you may need to hold down POWER ON as well in step 2 (which might mean 3-4 hands required).

Things went back to normal after that.

Hope this helps you.
Rob.

A90 just appears after switching on.

I had the same problem.
After starting up 20 or 25 times with the fwdc110p-file the problem was fixed.

Freeze Up

A- I have a Pentax Opio S hence I had to get the "fwdc110p.bin" file here:

http://www.badongo.com/file/707791

B- Drop this file on your SD Card at the root directory (same level as DCIM folder) or as described by the following link and then close your camera to OFF:

Attention: Do not load this file yet onto the camera i.e. the menu+power on procedure, follow step C first...

Important!!! Insert a fully charged battery or connect to an external power source.

C- Open the now infamous "Secret Menu" in order to re-initialize your camera prior to re-installing the new firm ware: Simultaneously press MENU + Flash symbol button + Power ON...a white screen with data written in black should show.

Then a sequence of buttons must be pressed: 2 times the focus button (flower, mountain, MF symbols button) followed by 2 toggles to the Right of the "OK" button...then press MENU once and voile...the Secret Menu appears!

Using the down toggle of the OK button, go to ROM UPDATE then go down to "SYSTEM INITIAL" and press OK. Press another OK to re-initialize your camera.

Once this has been completed, turn your camera off.

D- Load the firm ware by opening your camera with the MENU+Power ON procedure...finally this should be posting "Complete" after the "Loading" message, instead of the "Error!" that we initially kept on having.

Your camera should be working perfectly! Only thing is that you will have to redo your personal settings on it from scratch...but hey, this is much better than to wait for months to get your camera back from Pentax and save that money for your next photogenic trip!

Lens cover stuck

If you're careful this problem is a relatively easy fix for many digital cameras. The design of the lens cover mechanism is usually simple and very similar throughout camera brands. Here's an example fix for a Canon A400 with similar problems:

Cannot turn on my Optio S

When I have that problem I replace the bettery with my spare and I recharge the battery that came out. Works every time. Maybe your battery is worn out and not holding it's charge properly.
