Pentax Optio 33LF Digital Camera Questions & Answers
How do I "unlock" when it says "Card Locked"?
Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Actually, this camera has no sound recording. Does not have a mic or any sound recording mechanism at all. I used a mp3 music player and recorder to record the sound while recording images with the camera and bonded them together by video edition software.
Buttons not always working
Mine had that trouble too. Sometimes worked and sometimes stop working the buttons. I depressed some of them, random and angry and suddenly came back to work again.
Sd card not formatting
Are you sure your card is an SD card and not an SDHC card? The 33LF works with SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.
It says card not formatted. why/
There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", "not formatted", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found

My 33LF had the same problem with a 1gb Memory Card. I have replaced it with a 512mb card and it seems to be working perfectly. I was told that the capacity of the 1gb card exceeds the capacity of the camera.

My 33LF won't work with even a 1gb Memory Card. It freezez up as you describe. So far it seems happy enough with 512mb cards. A camera shop operator told me that the capacity of the card exceeds the capacity of the camera and it seems he was right.
Won't turn on at all
My Optio 33LF gave the same "card not formatted" message and then shut down completely at a family party. I took it to the Pentax Canada depot which is nearby and the technician said the main circuit board was gone. A C$130 part + labour estimate = time for a new camera !
How to load pictures from camera to computer
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as might have come with your camera.
