Mitsubishi HS-U447 VHS VCR Questions & Answers
VCR won't rewind HS-U447
A VCR is still useful and it is still the best method of archiving something you want to keep due to the fact it is possible to edit or repair the tape when something goes wrong but that is quite impossible with digital discs and other digital archiving methods.
I don't know much about how they work because so far I have only needed to clean the heads periodically to keep them working. They do contain a number of belts, rubber wheels and clutches andit is possible something made of rubber has deteriorated and stopped doing what it is supposed to do.
You will probably find loads of useful video content on youtube about that.
I have many VCRs due to the fact when the fashion passed folk were giving them away, putting them out for the garbade or simply leaving them in the street - that was just after I had bought a new one because it was much cheaper than getting an estimate from a repair shop.
I suggest you ask on the neighbourhood grapevine if anyone that still has a VCR would pass it on to you or enquire on freecycle, preloved or gumtree. Check at your local recycling centre or even haunt the discount stores until you find a new one - it will be cheaper than a repair unless you want to try and repair it yourself.
Mitsubishi HS-U447 VCR in Lock or "Loc" mode
Hopefully you still the VCR. Your's is stuck in "CHILDLOCK" mode. To release the lock you have to have the remote and press the DISPLAY for 8 to 10 seconds.
The purpose of the CHILDLOCK is to prevent others from using your VCR. If you want to set the VCR back on Lock you again press the DISPLAY for 8 to 10 seconds.
This solution is from the owner manual for HS-U448, so I figure your model is the same.
TAPE KEEP SKIPING. CANNOT CONTROL
Try cleaning the heads with Servisol Video 40. It's best to take the top cover off and give it a good clean. Use cotton buds, spray and wipe anywhere the tape comes into contact with. If that doesn't cure it you might have a worn video head.
VHS will not stay engaged with cassette
This machine is telling you it needs cleaning or the sensor that pulls the tape to the drum is bad and needs to be changed out. But you had it sitting for a year would not rule out that cleaning is in order also it would not rule out the sensor i am talking about. I repaired VCR's for years and the sensor is telling it to eject as there is a jame or it is dirty.

A/B Remote functions
if you have your manual that came with it, it should have instructions on how to use the aux mode on the remote to work a second tv, vcr etc.
Tracking
the video heads are probably dirty. it only takes one tape with one little spot of cola or juice or something on it to gum up the heads. a vcr cleaning tape may or may not clear it up. otherwise it needs to be cleaned by a proffessional, by hand, to clear it up.
Mitsubishi HS-U61 SVHS
When a tape won't eject, the problem can be caused by several things.
The most common problem is that the belt that operates the eject mechanism is slipping and not allowing it to eject the tape. This can be fixed by either using a re-grip solution on the belt or have the belt replaced.
Belts are inexpensive but sometimes difficult to get to. Most of the repair expense will be in the labor.
Unplug the unit and take the cover off. Hopefully there will be enough clearance so you can get to the tape. Try to find the motor and belt that is responsible for operating the eject mechanism. The motor will look like a shiny cylinder, about the diameter of a quarter and will have a plastic pulley attched to the shaft.
You can rotate the pulley and belt with your fingers and manually eject the tape. If the tape is around the spindles and video head, you will need to manually move the mechansim that retracts the spindles and returns the tape to the cartridge.
While you may be successful in getting the tape out, you need to find out what caused the problem in the first place. Putting in another tape will most like become stuck again unless the problem is identified and resolved.
Also look for a broken spring or cracked gear (missing teeth) in the eject mechanism.

Motors starting to whine.
I just use good old 3 in 1 oil, however you are going to have a hard
time getting it down into the head cylinder bearings, and it is
doubtful it will do much on a whine problem.
