Blurry picture

By focus is the set looking 3d etc--called a convergence issue---if so go into the menu with the Mitsubishi remote and see if it will adjust---if off and will not adjust in some area of the screen the set needs the convergence chips replaced. If convergence is good and not the issue describe the problem a bit more----these sets have 3 picture tubes with lens---from rear of set (safest way) the lens can be cleaned with a lens cloth---dust on them will make the picture look darker and dull looking and usually is done one time a year--do not try to adjust anything until you try this first.

No sound from a Mitsubishi ws48311. Probably had a power surge during a storm last night. All settings are correct. Ant A and B have

Ok, a long time expert and person who has repaired a lot of these sets. This set has 3 hidden menus: adjustment (stay out of that one), convergence, and the OPTION MENU----THAT ONE CURES ALL SORTS OF ODD ISSUES--it requires the original Mitsubishi remote and a 4 digit code to enter. It will if used reset the set to factory in all respects except for convergence which is stored elsewhere.Seen a number with no sound, no inputs etc that it cures.Let me know and I will get you a link to the service manual for free if the site has this one(I think they do).10 minute job and point and click---what likely happened is the micro in the set became confused--happens a lot and reason the Option menu is there.

Where do you plug in the headphones?

You can plug in headphones but you need an adapter. Also, not all headphones will work well with this TV. You should get headphones with in-line volume control. Then connect the headphone 3.5 mm M to a 3.5 mm F to dual RCA (1/4") M/M adapter. An example is http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05711931000P?sid=IDx01192011x000001&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=22-191604286-2 .Then use the TV audio menu to turn off the TV speakers and enable the external speakers. Note the TV volume control will not effect the headphone volume. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

I have a mitsu ws-48311. the screen went out

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QUkg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZYcU&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

gtl545,

This model has a known defect. The power supply board and DM boards have failed electrolytic capacitors. No spares are available from the factory. Fortunately there are after market repair kits available. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7065906-mitsubishi_turn_flashing_power_timer which explains the problem as well as where to get parts.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

The red convergence lines are warped and i cant\'t

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

TURN TV ON IT TURNS

You are not the only one I can tell you that. I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

If the text bows way out of proportion you may in fact need new convergence IC's, part # for most of these is stk392-560. in some cases a resistor in this circuit will change value causing misalignment of convergence. you should not be able to get the convergence perfect if either condition exist. I have encountered cold solder connection in some of these older projo tv's.

Double picture 1 blue 1 green. what is problem

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.
