Hello, cleaning may help, but I would bet the coolant in the crt's is mildewed, a common issue with Phillips projection sets. you can unplug and remove the back cover and get to the lens assembly to clean them with a lint free towel and glass cleaner, spray the towel and wipe them all 3 off and dry with a clean towel and re-install the back cover and see if that helped. If it didn't it's the coolant in the crt's that will need to be changed by a technician. tks

Screen distorts for a while then turns off

Your convergence chips likely failed and shorted out. This will cause many project TV sets to shut down to protect themselves from any damage. Take a look at this fixa page for more details or goto the site www.TvRepairKits.com for parts and instructions. I have a mitsubishi 60inch

You will need to replace IC8c00 (STK 393-110) . This is your convergence IC. You will need to measure all of the 6.8 ohm resistors, replace as necessary. These resistors will have blue, gray and gold stripes, there may be sixteen of these. Expect to replace at least three of these if not more. Replace caps C8c05 (25 volts at 100Mf),C8c07 (25 volts at 100Mf). Other caps to replace are C2c86 (25 volt at 10Mf),C2V17 (25 volt at 10 MF) and C601 (350 volt at 1 Mf). you will also need a keen eye to resolder connections behind tuner TU1A02 (says RF). Jumper sockets CE,RG,DM,VU,DP,EL. Check and resolder socket connections KC,KB,AV1,AV2 and resolder IC 2p30. And you will also need to pull the power supply board, resolder jumper connections CE, RG, DM, VU, DP, and EL. Resolder the vertical IC , this IC will be of the LA78XX series,(do not use excess solder and short the pins). Resolder the horizontal transformer, and the flyback transformer. You will need a keen eye to visually inspect bad grounds on power resistors, horizontal transistor, horizontal output transistor any any and all regulator transistors located on heat sinks. This may seem complicated, time and patience will repair this. Spend an hour a day for two weeks to fix this. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

I have a vs-60609 60"

Sounds like a Picture in Picture screen popping up, but if you do not have a signal from another tuner, it will be blank.

Try hitting the PIP button on your remote to see if it turns it off and on.
Plus go into the tv menu and find the PIP settings.

I lost my remote, now

  • Keep in mind, there is a power button front of set also. But, if you want to use a remote, go to remote central.com and they should be able to get you the factory remote.
  • If you are using cable box or satellite box, you should be able to use that remote for powering on the set.
  • In the back of the cable box or satellite box there will be codes to enter in the remote for that set to work with the remote. Give that a try and let me know how things turn out.... Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions or need more in depth knowledge for this repair... Have a great day...HDTV GURU JAY

When first powered on the

Your problem will be in the power supply of this TV. It will be the board that has the flyback transformer. You will have to pull this board out and find the vertical IC. I think it will be of the LA78XX series. You will have to resolder this IC, and don't exceed the solder. You do not want to weld the pins short. Next replace any and all capacitors near and next to this IC. Could be four caps you replace. As for the dark picture, you will have to inspect the rest of the power supply board for bad grounds (rings around the pins of capacitors, diodes, transistors, resistors and any other ICs mounted on heat sinks. Check your capacitors in the rest of the deflection area, and replace as necessary. Inspect those jumper jacks( that connect to the signal board), these will almost always need resoldering. Now the the other half of the the TV will have a signal board. The signal board will need the convergence IC resoldered. The IC will be of the STK-392-110 series. Solder these pins and do not short them with excess solder. This area will also, sometimes, provide the dim picture you describe. Inspect the board for any and all grounds. Be sure there are no rings around any component soldered here as well. And once again, inspect the jumper jacks (connects the two boards together) and resolder as necessary. Seems like a lot to do and there is. I hope this will help you with the start of repairs. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Picture is blurry with rainbow shadow

Hello,

This problem is very common with rear progection TV's.

It is related to one or more of the colour guns being out of alignment. The only way to correct this issue is to have a technician come in and fix it or bring it into a repair center. I personally would suggest purchasing a new TV. The cost of getting them aligned is usually more then a basic LCD.

Hope this helps
