John Deere Starter Tractor Lx188 Kawasaki Engine Questions & Answers
After started, when I release the brake and squealing sound is heard.
Look for the break system and apply brakleen, there must be debree if not rust in the area where the activated break system creates the friction to stop the machine. Brakleen is used for cars and it helps remove even the small particles of rust making your brake noiseless even when you do not use your brakes for a while
Why wont blades stay engaged ?
Check the drive pin in the tractor belt drive pulley. If the pin is broken it will have enough pull to turn the blades slow but will slip when the gas is applied. To repair you will need to remove the drive belt and take the pulley off the drive shaft and get a new pin and reinstal.
Wiring harness
look underneath did drive belt snap in two , rear has white plastic fan on top of it that should be rotating with engine running if not yep you broke a belt , don't know about wire could it be from front PTO they are electric so it will need a wire ,one possibility is that drive belt broke slapped front PTO and broke off wire , that musta been some snow your pushin ooh and a reminder never push a hydrostatic drive tractor without pump turning it will dammage it
Engine runs, tractor won't move
Pressure plate and throw out bearing bad. Get a matching connector for the alternator and splice it in. The engine is going to need to be removed. I would also check the input shaft to the transmission. Tractors a god at breaking shafts.
John deere lx188 water cooled engine. Do I need to winterize it or keep it from freezing?
Your tractor should have come with a blend of antifreeze just like a car. You can go to any auto-parts store to get a tester and see what temperature your coolant will freeze at is. As long as that temp is lower than your local chills you're good in that department (it is very important as freezing water will crack a block, or radiator, or plastic hose connections) I also strongly recommend that you fill your gas tank fully and add seafoam or some other winterizing additive to your fuel before filling it to ensure you don't get water build up in the tank and that it doesn't gunk up in the carb. Some also like to just run it out of fuel completely. I personally don't like to let me seals dry up this way. I will sometimes put a vice grip on the fuel line after the filter to stop the fuel then run the engine until just the carb itself is empty. In general, unless you have access to fuel with ZERO ethanol, it is bad to let these engines sit without running for more than a few weeks at a time. The carbs on these small engines are not designed to handle modern fuels with ethanol and the ethanol fuel seems to quickly turn into a coagulated mess in the carb's fuel bowl. I like to run mine every 2 to 3 weeks even if it's just to warm it up for 20 minutes all year even when I'm not using it. I also strongly recommend a battery tender. A single winter without running will ruin these smaller batteries, especially in cold temps, a battery tender will resolve this problem. If you don't park near an outlet, just remove the battery and put it near one. :) .
