Replacing a Mower Belt
1.
Remove the grass catcher and plastic tunnel at the rear of the mower by pulling the two metal pins that hold it in place.
2.
Place the mower on a flat, even surface (like a garage floor or driveway), and lower the cutting deck all the way to the floor.
3.Release the locks on either side of the height adjustment arm that holds the deck in place. Since the deck is resting on the ground, there will be no weight on these locks.
4
The front portion of the deck is hanging on a rod. Move the deck forward and lift the rod.
5.
The old belt is now slack. Take note of how it fits around the pulleys, and then remove it from the pulleys.
6.
Reset the deck's height adjustment to its highest position, and then lift the deck out from under the mower so that you have it in a clear and open area to work with.
7.
Put the new belt around the pulleys the same way the old belt fit. There should be plenty of slack for you to do this easily. Some belts twist around the pulley, so be sure to take note of whether your particular model requires this sort of fit.
8.
Fit the deck back on the mower by first putting the front rod in place.
9.
Lower the height adjustment lever all the way, and lock the rear of the deck back onto the arms.
10.
Place the belt around the engine pulley.
11.
Use a small piece of wood to push the tension pulley forward while guiding the belt around it. This will cause the belt to become taut.
12.
Reset your height adjustment on the deck, replace your grass catcher and replace the plastic tunnel.
